need help with flathead fan setup

My pops is building an 28 av8 on deuce rails, he's running a 28 shell and radiator. the motor is a 41 59 a with new wide belt pullys that are close to the block. He bought an electronic distributer with the crab style cap. The problem is when we place the fan carrier where it needs to be the belt runs into the distributer. Does anyone have any idea how to get around this problem, maybe even a list of parts to make it all work.
