Any truth to this story?......
Was reading the May/June 1972 issue of Ford Life and came across an article called "Too Good To Be True".
It had to do with a "lost freight car" which was found on an old abandon New York Central railroad line sitting in a quarry. Inside the car was found four (4) undriven 1934 Ford automobiles. Any truth to this 38 year old story or any follow ups heard about it? Interesting. Pluck |

Wouldn't it be nice. I seriously doubt this one, but it's fun to dream about being the guy that found them. Of course they would be 34's

Re: Any truth to this story?......
as the above link mentions many times, DON'T BELIEVE THIS. the article mentions Hudsons, Packards, Dusenbergs, and Nashes. Looks like this story traveled around a lot in the early 70's and morfed to suit the listener. If Ford Life listed the article as "To Good To Be True" I'm sure it is.

Re: Any truth to this story?......
Back around that time I heard that it was a railroad car with 57 Chevies in it. Back in 68 while I was overseas I heard the rumor it was WWII Harleys packed in cosmoline.
I say just some story teller's fantasy. |

Re: Any truth to this story?......
There is a story that has been floating around for some time concerning a Douglas DC-3/C-47 type airplane carrying a full load (3000lbs) of gold bars that supposedly crashed in the mountains of Eastern California during WWII. People are still looking for this airplane--even today. The facts don't add up but the story persists. I wrote a book about stateside Army Air Forces air crashes during WWII and no such airplane crash appears in the accident report record. There were a lot of AAF crashes during WWII, so the story is probably rooted in a real incident, but just not as spectacular as the re-telling. TonyM. Last edited by TonyM; 09-04-2010 at 01:05 PM. |

STEVE PLUCKER .......................
If it had been true, everyone would know the facts. It would be well known. Some people just love to start stuff like that and then retreat, to see what happens. Let's see if anyone knows of one of those FORDS ! MIKE |

Re: Any truth to this story?......
A story here of maps found in the Pentagon air strike and passed onto some one here of old US Army bases here in NZ ,one under a hill on a farm .The guy crawled through a ventilator shaft with a 6 volt battery and started one of the many Jeeps .It sounded very convincing as he said it had been hooked up to power till recently to run the A/C the power board was like what you would have on a ship with heavy brass fuses , They had heavy Gravel fill dropped on the beach to of load the trucks etc from ships. They dug for days with a excavator to get into it ,In boxes were guns ammo . CMG trucks ,and uniforms ,He said it was for sale in the US only .??

Re: Any truth to this story?......
A story appeared in the Mustang Times about a basement warehouse under one of Ford's factory buildings. Story said they were stockpiling the first Mustangs in preparation for the unveiling to the public and wanted to keep them out of sight of the newspaper guys. When the Mustang finally hit the market there was so much frenzy about them and they were churning them out so fast that someone forgot about the stockpiled inventory. Discovered thirty years later were 50 brand-new 1964 1/2 Mustangs sitting on flat tires and covered in dust.
Of course it was the April issue of the magazine and they are well known for their April Fool's stories.

I heard that story about the ship sitting at the bottom of Lake Erie, with the load of brand new Model "A"s, about 50 years ago, from someone from the area. He seemed to know what he was talking about. I wish someone would verify it. MIKE |

When I was a teen in Southern California (1960's) I was heavily involved with A-Models. The version I got was an eccentrics collection of new Model A Ford Town Cars, preserved in cosmoline in a warehouse. Dennis/Arkansas
