Hello Shiny,

Here are some shots to get you started.

There are ten fabric/canvas pieces and they can be fun to fit the first few times. The curtains came with our car, so I didn't have to do any fitment.

I find a good place to get started is the 'spat' that covers the windshield post, I find I have to loosen the header bow and raise the top slightly to get that one snapped in. The real confusing one is the 'triangle' piece at the rear. I have to unsnap the top from the wooden bow, put the triangle in, and snap the top to the triangle. The long thin ones go above the 'doors' and hang from metal clips or hangars. They kept worrying me when I was out recently with the curtains on, so I took them off as long as it wasn't raining. I was afraid they would be blown away and didn't want to have to go find them behind me!

The photo of the stanchions has one of them placed incorrectly, the sharply curved one has the pointy part going towards the headlights is from the drivers side. I think the rest of them in this shot are from the passenger (right) side set as if you're looking at them from inside the car.

Feel free to ask questions.

VT/ JeffH, thanks a bunch for the pics and write up /advice. I want to drive this whenever I want and it does get cold here in the winter a bit
Tub1, I love the look with the curtains! i would bot even bother with them but I have kids, and want to try to keep them a little warmer and dryer at times.
I am planning to install a rear heater, anyone done this before?

Thanks

You might contact LeBaron Bonney for them. Ibelieve they have them. The founder had a 35 Phaeton which was restored . They fit fine as I wound up with the car.

Shiny, I recently finished the installation of LeBaron Bonney side curtains on my 36 Phaeton. I'm located not far from you in Bellingham, and you're welcome to stop by and take a look. Send me a PM if interested.

I'm puzzled that Ford doesn't "shingle" the triangular sail panel like they do with the door curtains where the rear edge of a curtain overlays the curtain behind it. How is the panel sealed to prevent rain for entering the top along the rear edge of the panel?

Thanks guys!
Jim I will drop by for sure, will send you a PM as I get down there quite a bit

I looked at the LeBaron Bonney kits, and the only thing is that my roof is chopped 2.5 or 3" so i would be buying a kit and then cutting it up.
I think I am better off to check out somebodys and then copy it kinda

Has anyone installed a rear heater?

Hi Everyone, Mike, do these shots help?

I'm afraid the seal is not actually meant to be totally waterproof for the passengers, front, or rear.

The shot from the inside of the car, notice the long thin piece suspended by the two black tabs. That goes across the top of the front curtain, rear curtain, and the triangle in the back.

Shiny, the chopped top should not be a problem. LeBaron Bonney first sends you a set of paper patterns which you modify to match the openings of your car, and return to them. They say that each car is unique because of different windshield slant, rear bow positions, etc., and each set is custom made.

Ah, that being the case Jim they should be able to make them in RHD as well if they are custom made. The only difference is the little pocket in the drivers curtain.

I agree, LB should be able to make curtains for a RHD car.

The first shipment from LB includes, in addition to the paper patterns, the stanchion covers and the headers. These pieces have been made to fit a top that has not been modified, so when ordering a set of curtains for a chopped top, some additional dimensions will have to be provided to LB.

Thanks for the clarification, Jeff. That's a very complex "system" of weather protection, isn't it?

I can confirm that LeBaron Bonney will make RHD curtains on request. The only difference between RHD and LHD '35-'36 curtains is the flapped access hole on the driver's side to facilitate hand signals.

Hi Everyone, I had the curtains on my car this week and took some shots to share. The first eleven shots are of Dearborn winner car. That car has a greener hint to the fabric, mine is whiter.

Both of these posts are of '36 cars.

Shiny, as mentioned above, Lebaron makes the side curtains from a set of paper patterns they supply, You mark up the patterns to show where the body fastners are located, outline where the side curtain irons are located and where the horizontal edge of the top is. So height may only effect the size of the window,,

Attached pictures may give you a better feeling of the process. Hope this helps. Jim
