Default Fix for Old Man Problem #21

Sometimes (often) we forget to turn back the switch on our directionals when we don't have the canceling type.
I installed a light in the dash panel (1929 type) and connected it to 2 diodes and back to the cowel lamps that I use for front signals.
Works great -- should have thought about this sooner.

Could use some clarification. Are you feeding the additional dash light from the cowl light turn signals through diodes? If yes, I assume the resultant flashing dash light reminds you that the turn signals are still on. What type/rated diode did you find that works well?

Hi!
I also constantly forgot to turn mine off, same with high beams. As the headlights are halogens, they are quite bright. I have a beeper on the flashers but still sometimes the noise of the car is louder than the beeper. What I did, was to first change the daskboard screws to Stainless philips head screws and then drill a small hole through them. I then got a couple of small leds, added a dropping resistor to one lead of each and slid heatshrink tube over the connections. When they are lit, the highbeam indicator is a dim blue led and the flashers have a brighter green led. The pictures show them light and out. The flasher led is feed from the pilot terminal on the mechanical flasher. The rear flashers are in the tail lights and the front are double filiment bulbs in the cowl iights.

Sorry for the lack of clearity, yes the cowel lights feed through the diodes (not sure of the value-but the Radio shack sales person said they would handle up to 200 volts). Physically they are about 1/8" by 1/4".
They do blink each time the cowel light blinks. The diodes prevent backfeed that would cause both sets of lights to flash when used. Otherwise it would require 2 seperate lights.

Very clever and very clean installation.

When my grandpa had my coupe, he was like some of you older geesers... I mean men , and he left the turn signals on all the time. So he ended up rigging up a red flashing light that is located on the steering column facing the driver. And when that wasnt enough, he hooked up a beeper on the back of the light that was so loud that it's all you could hear at a stop light. Needless to say, now that I own the car all of that is unplugged. The light was so bright that it was just flashing right in your face at night. When people ask me now what that red light is for, I tell them it is my low fuel warning light lol they always get a little confused by that.

Here's a novel fix suggested by a friend:

"a smoke alarm buzzer works great for ooold folks in a noisy Model A. I use one in the middle of a jumper lead for circuit testing also. They're real small."

If you would like a schematic of what Minn-Tex Lee did, send me an email as have the schematic for both positive and negative ground for a buzzer, but could change to an Led with a dropping resistor or a bulb in place of the buzzer. [email protected]
