Hi Tony, thanks for stepping up to do this. Will this be a one time shot to do all of these at once or will you be doing these on some routine basis as folks decide they need one for an engine build?

Thanks John , my plan would be to carry this on as long as I can or until my cam grinder stops grinding cams for what ever reason . Subject to any other unforeseen circumstance .
Thanks again !
Cheers

Always good to see Kiwis helping out, and doing well in other places.
Cold and raining down here in Taranaki.

Tim thanks for asking , the first sample cam to grind a master from has too much run out on heel of exhaust lobe . We found this while plotting cam on Friday . We are now working on getting original master & also looking at other originals to make a master from. This has slowed us just a little , but we have several options .
This is absolutely going to happen , but it is just needing a little patience on my part.
Thanks to all for the support !!!
Cheers

The cam I sent you is from cam techniques , I never got around to installing it.
what will it take to correct it? are you saying the heel has high and low spots?
maybe from grinding wheel chatter or looseness from the machining?
is the problem just on the exhaust lobes?I need to know so I can check the others I have and possibly correct the problem.
Thanks,
Fordestes

If the heel runs out on all exhaust lobes, the problem is the master.
If it is just one or two it is a setup problem.
Very simple matter to check the master if you have it in hand. If the master runs out, someone screwed up along the line between the lift figure list and the master generation. The only cure if the master runs out is to do it over.
Aside from all that, a worn out grinder can also cause heel runout.

I often wonder about cam spec tags that specify checking valve clearances
on a flathead engine HOT. Must be something about 2 oars.

I have a L100 for a press on gear that was ground about 1-1/2 yrs ago, would that help? If I put it in a pair of v blocks and put an indicator on the heel of the lobes, will that show whether they are out of concentricity or not?

Tony, are these cams a good candidate for a blown motor?
Thanks, Joe
