Thanks to everyone for the help, i was able to get it apart. i have the original key now and the cylinder won't turn. took it to a locksmith they cut a key off the code and still no go. So i guess i need a new cylinder.

The internal pins/springs could be stuck and not allowing key cut to code to work properly. My '35 door lock cylinder had that problem. I sprayed a cleaning fluid into the key hole, and worked a newly cut key in and out of the cylinder a few times, while also turning it lightly side to side, and after repeating this procedure several times, the key finally turned and the cylinder began working.
If this had not worked, I would have had a locksmith replace the internal pins and springs to allow the newly cut key to work.
