Default Generator ID

I just overhauled the generator for my '48 F-1. The case is stamped with a Ford script followed by C-2. I also have a core I picked up somewhere that I plan to overhaul as a spare. I assume it's from a car, because it has a narrow belt pulley. No idea where it actually came from. In every other respect it seems exactly like the one on my truck, except the number on the case after the Ford logo is 9-1-1. Does anyone know what these numbers mean?

They are a date code. Ford had been marking the body of the generator and the starter with the code for a long time. Model A, all the early V8. At some point the code had to change (run through the alphabet). For the early pre war V8 the letter is for the year and the number for the month. Such as:
1931=L , 36=Q, 41=V
32=M, 37=R, 42=W
33=N, 38=S
34=O, 39=T
35=P, 40=U

1=Jan. to 12=Dec.

Terry - Thanks! That makes perfect sense for the C-2 stamp (Feb '48). Do you have any thoughts about the 9-1-1?

Hmmmm.......that 9-1-1 would seem to be the perfect candidate to overhaul and keep on the shelf for "emergencies". DD
