Spark plug questions
Currently running champion w16y plugs in my stock engine, and they seem to do well.
Question? Would i do better with w18 plugs? Also i notice a very small oil ring at the base of each plug. Even after proper torquing. Need new gaskets? Are they even available? I see spark plug adapter sets available through the parts suppliers. Is there an advantage to switch over? If so, then what would be the proper spark plug brand and number? Thanks for any help you can give me to my questions. I want to keep my engine in tip to running condition. |

Re: Spark plug questions
This came up the other day look at the post with the plug test section.
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146544 Yes the vendors sell gaskets. You only need the adapter sets for the smaller plugs. Do the test and then post the results. We can then suggest a plug for you.

Re: Spark plug questions
I explained my experience in post #5 in the thread that Mike V shows above. If the W 16 Y plugs are performing up to your expectations and aren't running black and sooty, there should be no need to change. One advantage for using adapters is that spark plugs will be readily available. When the later ,smaller 14 mm plugs are used with adapters, at first glance they will appear to be original type two piece plugs. I mentioned the use of AC 45 XLS plugs because that is the type used in the dyno tests with the Brumfield 5.9 head. The AC plugs were too hot when I used them with a different head with compression around 6.8 and wanted to keep running after the ignition switch was cut off. This was probably partly caused by the fact that spark plug adapters don't transfer the heat to the head the same as original type spark plugs and the heat range increases.

Re: Spark plug questions
What 14 mm spark plugs do you recommend with spark plug adapters in an old, but good running engine with stock cylinder head? I usually drive the car in average speeds of about 40 to 50 mph and in distances of more than 10 miles.

Re: Spark plug questions
What do you have in it now and how do they look after a good run?
