1930 Model A speedo routing

In the process of putting my car back together and it was 2 years ago I took it all apart and I cant remember how the speedo cable routes. Does it go through the same hole as the distributor armored cable or does it slip through somewhere else by the floor board. I guess this is where a picture would have come in handy I'm having the same issue where does the clamp/hole with a rubber grommet bolt to that holds the neg battery cable that hooks to the starter go. I think it bolts to the bell housing bolt or starter bolt....Thanks in advance....Dave

It runs along the inside of the firewall and out a hole just below and to the right of the hole that the choke rod goes out.

There is also a little clip bracket that is supposed to hold the speedo up to the firewall.

In the picture below I do not have the speedo cable installed, so I drew it in with a red line.

How does it run after that? I can't get my newly rebuilt Speedo to work, but if I press and turn the center cable with a drill from the transmission side, it operates. I'm thinking the cable is either routed wrong under the floorboards making it too short or the ends of the cable center are rounded off, or its the wrong cable and too short. It bends pretty tight on the drivers side of the transmission where it goes into the speedo gear. The previous speedo was frozen, but the cable is not broken. I removed the trans gear tonight and the gears all look good there. The cable center was turning when I rotated the Speedo gear but seemed like it was turning too freely to be spinning the speedo. I don't have a helper to sit in the cab while I'm underneath. :-) any ideas would be great!

GR82NO, do you have the oval speedometer, or the round one?

Do you have the cable with the square end, or the earlier larger cable with the single drive spline?

The speedometer should turn very easily, so you may not be able to tell anything by just spinning the gear at the driveshaft.

My Cable goes thru the hole on the passengers side, like in Jason's picture, then down the outside of the firewall, back under the floorboards, then back to the speedometer drive. Also it has a clip fastened to the right frame rail to hold it steady. This is all on the passengers side of the car and transmission. You shouldn't have any sharp bends.Afordman31
