Fitting Tachometer - 1930 A

Hi all , has anyone fitted a tachometer to their A model? How do I do it and the best affordable way to go about it - all help appreciated. I am now 12 volt negative earth for my 30 coupe. John, Australia

I went to an auto parts & bought a 2 1/2" tach & banded it to my steering column .

12 Volt Neg ground gives you the option of using the vintage Sun tachs. I believe the Sunpro repro tachs can be tuned to a banger motor. Summit Racing has them. I'm using a 6v tach from Snyders, mounted in an aluminum panel I made connected to the column drop.

Mine (shown above in post #3) is an Autometer 2697 (2" diameter). I bought it from Amazon:

Buzz Pound made those about 10 years ago. I think they were based on a Westach. They are no longer available.

azmodela: They are just electronic parts. If yours are not mechanically hurt, they can be repaired.

They're old Sun or Sun Pro tachs, Buzz used to convert them to 6 volt negative ground systems in addition to the 12 volt one sold. I can't recall if any modification was necessary to make them 4 cyninder compatible.

I talked to Buzz several years ago about remaking them or learning the process to do it. It's complicated for the 6 volt versions. I did get the electronic file that has the new face from him.

It really depends, stock or modified? With the right components, some flat 4 VW's and Porsche's can make power into the 8000-10,000 rpm range.
