2 questions '40

I'm done lurking
1. My ballast resistor is hanging and of course glowing red. Would I get better heat dissipation if it was mounted?

2. My electronic turn signals flash normal with Key On Engine Off. 12 volts ....sorry Ken.... But with KOERunning they flash very erracticly. Some sort of EMI? And how do I suppress?

Mike, you're not looking for heat dissipation, to do so would defeat the purpose of the resistor. It should be mounted firmly as original though, so you don't burn your pinkies.

As I understand it, Generator pumping lots of juice, or batery almost dead with no generator, the resistor puts out about the same. Generator makes it glow red, putting up tons of resistance, and barely gets hot with a dead battery, allowing most of the voltage to pass through. The end result at the coil is supposed to be close to 4v.

Never heard of them glowing - sure you got the correct one?

I would mount it on the engine near the coil if not there.

Converted to 12 volt - s/b around 7-8 volts.

Paul, yeah, you're right on the red glow thing, but the old scar on my finger still tells me otherwise!

Oh-oh, 12 volts... I didn't see that, and have no idea what's the right way to go on that.

If you have 12 volts I would use the ceramic style resistor that is used on the mid 50's Fords and Chevys and mount it on the engine side of the firewall.

Thanks for the replies. I do have the correct voltage to Skip's coil and a ceramic resistor as recomended by Barners. It just hangs under the dash. Thinking about a condenser on the turn signal circuit.

Poor ground or no ground on everything, double up on engine to frame/firewall, more the once, two three times, can't hurt?? .... A bit of a reach but it sounds like the points are caring the ground for your turn signals ??
Take a jumper wire and ground the turn sig. light base itself, watch the flashing change speed?? .... OLD.....BILL
