Default Bonniville Speed week

Scroll down to the seven pages of photos of Speed week. there are several Model A's shown. One looks awfully tired to make a run.http://hotrodhotline.com/feature/2010show/

The blue roadster out of Livermore made one run at 78 on 2 cylinders. That was it. The motor was held up in customs for a month. Not enough time to shake out the bugs. They will be back I believe. Bob

I was there Thursday through Tuesday. This is my second year. Any car guy needs to add Bonneville to their bucket list. I'll be back next year.

Dennis Piranio is shooting for August 2011 for a run on his class record and I have no doubts that he will make a good showing. His blown alcohol dragster, tractor, and boat engines are well known.

I am just getting into building model a engines with performance parts and was wondering if anyone could tell me if you get better performance from having the spark plugs in the side of the head? Also how far with a stock block can you go to produce horsepower with babbit bearings ?

Depends on which "side" of the head. Some folks want them partially on the outside with some of it sticking through the inside. In all seriousness, what you are asking without knowing exactly "which" head would be just pure speculation. OHV vs. F-head sv. L-head greatly matters, and the shape of each of those combustion chambers.

With regard to babbitt, I know you could safely make more horsepower on babbitt than what the 3-main crank can handle. If you need a number, ...I would feel comfortable making 200+ hp on 'banger' w/ babbitt.
