Anyone know of any publication in any of the books or mags that has the information in it about rebuilding Roadster Door latches...thanks all?

On the two that I have done, there were a few places that were spot welded or pressed to hold the halves together, carefully ground these areas down until the halves separated.

I then built up with weld any worn areas and filed or ground these areas until things were back to normal dimensions.

I was able to locate some springs that I cut down to get the correct length as they were a bit long. Put it back together and tack welded the ground down spots and softpacked my tacks until smooth.

They both work like a charm. Hope this helps, I am doing this from memory, as I recall it was not a difficult task.

Hi Mark,

I can't claim to be expert, but I restored a 29 Roadster and have owned it for about 4 years. I built up a fair library of books, articles and web site links but haven't come across a 'how to do it' on door latches.

I rebuild those and alot of latches. I usually replace the springs with one a bit less stiff. If allows the doors to close easier. I know Henry knows best but I have never had a downside to doing this. A concern is those doors have been know to pop open when the body twists. But no reports to date. Having a milling mahine sure helps, too. Build up the plunger wear and mill it down.

BTW, I just get the replacement springs at an ACE hdwe or anywhere they have the assortment drawers.
