A Ford Trimotor plane moving freight and an incredible Trimotor film

We have a detailed post up on The Old Motor today showing the Ford Trimotor along with the new 1936 Lincoln Zephyr and a Douglas DC-3, both from The Henry Ford Museum.

We also found an incredible film of a Ford Trimotor that Harold Johnson flew at an air show, where he looped, spun and snap rolled a Ford Trimotor during the 1930′s. Johnson reportedly performed 17 consecutive loops during one demonstration. See both on theoldmotor.com

in the early 60s, an old tri motor would stop at our local airport and take people for rides, my dad would always take me out there. rode it about 3 times, good memories, thanks for posting!

In the 80'S a man with the last name of Cheney was flying a Ford Tri Motor around the country to different airports selling rides. In the 80's Harold Johnson was still doing acrobatics at airshows in a Waco i beleive. If it was not a Waco it was a Stearman. Marv

The Anoke county air museum in central Minnesota has three Tri-motors. Last summer during their annual open house they had one flying. Very impressive. If you are ever near there it's worth your while to go through the museum. They have several rare planes. They also hosted the Collings foundation B-24 and B-17. My brother and I were lucky enough to ride the B-17. Our dad was a pilot of a B-17, flew 26 combat missions out of England. As we sat in the belly of that plane while they were doing the preflight checks before take off, I couldn't help but wonder what was going through the minds of the "real" crew as they started to roll down the runway with a load of bombs, not knowing if they would make it back. Salute to ALL who have and are serving. Rod

Took a ride in a Tri motor a couple of years ago in St.Louis, was quite a thrill. Will never forget it.

Dad, when the trimotor comes back to St. Louis we will go again and I will ask the pilot to do a couple of loops when we go for another ride.
