Default What could have been mounted to my rumble lid ?

I've been putting patch panels in on the coupe, and one of the next items on the list to repair is the rumble lid. It's in decent shape, but I noticed that it has some holes drilled in on the top side.

Before I fill them, I was kind of curious to see if anyone knows what these holes may have been used for.
Is there some kind of accesory that would have been bolted on ?

How about a simple U shaped handle like the kind on a door without a lock, could be that the trunk handle was gone or broken, or some type of brackets to tie something to the back of the car between the bottom of the lid and the bumper bars. These are just a guess, nothing I have seen......

I suspect auxiliary brake/tail lights. Fill 'em in with no regrets.

A car that old? God only knows what someone through the years decided to bolt on to that "old car".

Original period accessory mother-in-law hold down harness to keep her face out of the front seat. Definitely needs preservation and resto.

I'm guessing grab handles to open the rumble lid. Maybe the previous owner had little t-rex arms and could not reach the center handle (lol)
