Re: shift knobs
You can buy what they call "E-Z" inserts. Not heli-coils. Its like a steel bushing threaded on outside for a bigger thread and a smaller inside thread. I use them some times on the hole up from the bottom on 94 carbs.Work great. They have diff. sizes. kenct.

Re: shift knobs
Hey Ken ct, where do you get those E-Z inserts? I too certainly have use for something like that.
Are they cheeeeper than heli-coils? |

Re: shift knobs
I took a bolt with right thread pitch and carefully drilled and tapped it to fit the shift lever.

Re: shift knobs
I get them at a local industrial parts place here in town. I'll get you the exact name of them later . I have the box from them in the shop.Maybe Mc Master would have them or a Graingers.ken ct. What sizes or size would you be looking for?? In and out sizes? I could send you 1 if needed. Cheaper than HC and you use a standard drill size for outside hole, depending what size the hole is.

Re: shift knobs
The holes in the knobs are bigger than the shift lever,SO how would that work???? ken ct. Oh ok i see what you mean.Thread a bolt into the knob, cut off flush and drill and tap for the smaller size. Lot more work than an E-Z thread. ken ct.

Re: shift knobs
You can get those shift knobs from Napa with the correct thread.
They have them listed under PTO control cables. Red or black. Bruce Works good Lasts long time |

Re: shift knobs
On drilling a bolt...can be easy if you have a drill press. Clamp on a block of wood, drill a hole that is tight on the chosen bolt. Use a longer than needed bolt with head cut off, put it in hole in wood, hold protruding end with vise grips to keep it from rotating under the drill. Drillandtap, cut to length, done.
