Got one out of my Granddad's Gleaner all ready to go in one of my A's. I thought a major difference in these engines was the cam. Something called an industrial cam, which I assume is a certain lift and duration that would suit their use. We just left the cam in it, so part of the fun will be finding out how it runs in a car.

Just got my gleaner motor to finally turn over. It looks surprisingly good for sitting covered with dirt for over 10 years.

If it was a diamond block, it will have a B cam if not messed with over the years. Otherwise, it will have a standard A cam.

Hmm, wonder what the differences would be. Guess I'll have to drop it in an A to find out.

One of the B style cams out of one of my diamond blocks has a number stamped in the end. I asked about the number on the old Fordbarn and no one knew what it meant. The number started with a G, so I presume that to mean Gleaner, not sure what the rest of it stood for. Rod

As near as I can tell from the parts catalogs, Ford didn't make a special cam for the industrial engines. At the end of the A production, they discontinued the A cam and only supplied only one version of the B cam. They recommended replacing the lifters with the slightly larger mushroom of the B style.
