Default Goodyear and Firestone Tire insignia colors...

What type of "paint" (if in fact paint is used) is used to inhance the Goodyear and or the Firestone Tire insignia for which is moulded on the side of these tires?

Does anyone have detailed color photos of the two and the colors used?

Also have seen a red ring around the tires...is this correct?

Thanks.

Pluck

Pluck, you might want to contact Jim Brand. He's painted the logo and stripe on tires for years and would know what works and what doesn't. As a paint striper he is the best. [email protected]

Pluck if you do contact him please post the answer here so a bunch of us do not slam him with emails.

Were these tires (goodyear and firestone) painted like this from the manufacturer?

According to the JS, the Goodyear flag logo used "silver" for the mast?

I was in contact with both Dr. Klein and Mr. Brand about a month ago. Both are extremely generous gentlemen with their knowledge of this subject.

Dr. Klein provided the photo below of the original Goodyear coloring (21" blackwall).
* I found it interesting that apparently no attempt was made to remove the paint from the surface of the lettering cast into the logo … probably in the name of time. I attempted to use an air brush but found too much over spray. I ended up using just a plain artists brush.
* Note that the red color for the centering line is IN the groove between 2 ridges. I found it much easier to paint this area with the tire inflated, slightly spreading the groove.

Mr. Brand recommends the use of One Shot (Fire Red and White) sign enamel. I was not able to locate this product locally but both are available from Dick Blick in 4 oz cans (really wasteful as it does not take much!).

That picture is also in Henry Dominguez's book "The Ford Dealership", shows alot of detail in the full page photo.

In fact in both volumes of "The Ford Dealership" shows numerous Model A's on the showroom floor. Great books!

Are those pickups the "widebed" or "narrowbed" types?

Are they 30's or 31's?

Narrow. Also, single piece splash aprons and a soft top. So somewhere in the first half of '31.

Judging Standards say the two piece splash aprons were eliminated in September, so, could be the last three months of '30.
