Several years ago at the LARS on Sunday afternoon I was loading my display for the long trip back to Nebraska and when I came out of the trailer Ed was sitting in one of my chairs. I stopped what I was doing and we had a half hour conversation about my FH products and the state of rodding in general. What a treat and what a nice man.

Did he say what he was doing so far from home? I assume he is still living in Cal.

You lucky dog. I'd like to meet him some day and ask him how and why he numbered his cams the way he did? just for fun. I have his autograph a friend got it for me when he was in Ca.

I bought a RR-2 cam and lifer Kit from him in 1961 for my 301 Chevy engine. The price was $269.00 for the cam, roller lifters, short push rods, valve springs, and ultra rev kit, in cluding shipping. If he is 90 1/2 years old now in 1961 he would have been 39.5 and I was 19 years old. Time sure passes by and so do the prices!!!
32wetzel In 1961 I was working as a mailboy at Westinghouse. I made $65.00 a week and brought home $41.10 a week, so that $269.00 didn't come easy. Ron Wetzel Last edited by 32wetzel; 03-22-2012 at 02:35 PM. |

One of the early heros of rodding for sure...he is an extraorinarily recognizable person. I think I would recognize him immediately from even the oldest pictures I have seen in ancient Honk magazines that are 60 years old.
I hope he drives the Model T to that event! |

I told him it took two days to install the double Isky valve springs in our Bonneville motor. He laughed at that... |

Thank you for posting Isky's visit and picture. Us old timers don't feel as old when we still see the Hot Rod heros from the '50s & 60's hanging around.
