Ship High In Transit - Wooden ships that had a cargo of animal waste were given the designation for their hazardous cargo and would have to stay away from other ships and any one with an open flame, many exploded due to Methane build up! So the word carried over to some other people that were "Full of it" The word is used and is a very unflattering word used by the men in ship yard bars and such, over the years this language has been discouraged due to the derogatory meaning and connection with animal and human waste. Most have been taught as youngsters to not use this word and several others that have other meanings, its just not polite, has nothing to do with political correctness, we are to avoid coarse talk.

O K - Ship that was loaded correctly and ON KEEL and stood straight up in the water, so named so it was OK to leave port!!!

Many people use euphemism's - substitution of an agreeable or in inoffensive expression for one that may offend or suggest something unpleasant. " Darn it" "Gosh" "Gay" "Cougar" and the list goes on and on, just have to watch the most powerful weapon ever made " the Tongue "

Have a great Model A Day and A Happy New Year, Bruce in southern OHIO

what the heck, I might as well stir the pot a bit.

history: I was a devotee of the 70's hippie counterculture and also worked in construction trades for 25+ years. I had a vocabulary that could loosen paint. my poor Grandma cringed when she heard some of the awful things that came out of my mouth. as I grew up, the language softened and a few years back I made an effort to completely give up vulgarity & profanity. not yet 100% but I'm close. so I can chuck a few stones here having been on both sides of the bad language arguement.

current discussion: JnS, your name is not one I would choose for myself, but it is a long way from being offensive. let the naysayers pound sand.
keep in mind however that first impressions count, and MANY people who see this appellation may get a poor impression of your value as a human being when they should really not.

Iffin' y'all come from the farm or from "the bottoms" or from the woods, there is only 1 proper way to describe various types of animal droppings. That word is preceded by the name of whichever critter laid that little treasure there.
My Aunt Minnie, a comic that could out do Carol Burnett, uses the phrase, "Say chicken s**t," to get a smile, when snappin' folks pics, even outside the Forest Hills Baptist Church on Sunday!
Shortly after marrying my wife, Pat, a born again christian, shocked me by saying s**t in utter disgust! After getting myself up from offin' the floor, I asked, "Is the honeymoon OVER?"
She explained that in her family the word was used to express utter disgust without using The Lord's name in vain. YES, WE'RE STILL MARRIED! (54 YEARS)---Bill W.

Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional. Everyones taste in humor is not the same as much as everyones taste in music can vary. Rarely will I put down a form not to my liking. I believe it shows ignorance. Take the time to learn about something and there is something to be appreciated. For the record I am not calling anyone ignorant. It is just how I approach life.
