Default Multi disc clutch package

I have an early 1928 Roadster with the long, (multi-disc) clutch. I am out of adjustment on my existing clutch, so I am looking down the road at a rebuild. I have looked on ebay and purchased a disc pack that is worn, but has some good parts for reassembly for a new clutch (combined with my own, unknown condition). I got the ebay clutch pkg for $40.00. I have found a clutch package that looks as good as new from a local source. All driven discs look great - no points on the teeth. Linings look in great shape. Seller wants $250.00 for the pack. I want a good clutch using the long clutch option. Is the asking price of the like new components too high? I have been to Hershey shopping for Chevy parts. I know good parts are "gold" to the restorer. BW

I have rebuilt a number of multi-disc clutches. I recal about 6-7 years ago I had two sets of discs re-lined at a clutch shop and it cost about $350. Each clutch pack has four discs, two sides. $350 for 16 sides.

You might take the discs from your $40 unit to a clutch rebuilding shop and ask how much they would charge you to re-line the four discs. The discs are similar to motorcycle clutch discs and any clutch shop should be able to do the job.

Interesting about the rebuilding shop. Are the original clutch discs asbestos? Do the new rebuilds have the same characteristics as the original?

Hi, If it looks that good, buy it, as it will cost you more in the long run to go the other way...

Do you have a good multi disk flywheel, flywheel housing, pedals, clutch return spring, transmission and throughout bearing?

I have a complete multi-disc clutch on a transmission [no shift tower] with pedal & linkages, and bell and a super good flywheel that shows absolutely no wear in the splines. It was taken out of a coupe in the early fifties that had a froze-broke engine and the old fella that did it said the coupe "showed little use after the dirt was washed away". Did it for his brother and they still have the car. Got it with a trailer-load of other goodies. Will let it all go for $250 for I'll never use it. [email protected]

I've got NOS Multi Disk parts. All the Race Car guys used them in the 1930's. You may need the K.R.Wilson tool to compess the spring.

While reading these post, I see that there are several people with some multi-disk parts. I need the K.R.Wilson Munti-Disk Clutch Tool. If anyone has one that they would like to sell, please let me know. I need to rebuild my multi-disk clutch and my friends also.

Thanks,
Jerry........
