Knowing the aftermarket car parts nowadays, they are probably all made by one shop. That being said there is ebay/swapmeets for an original that you can restore. Or if you feel ambitious how about recreating something from the 30's? Look at some of the old ads and see what fits your tastes. I really want one that I can use as a small kitchenette for picnic trips. I will have to make that one up myself though.

Mike, That's exactly what I want to do. I want to build one myself. But I want to dado the corners, so it wil take some doing as I've never done that before. BUT, my brother has, so I'll be able to get some help. The rest of the job I can handle. Actually looking forward to it.

![]() Unfortunately nobody makes a trunk that resembles trunks of the era. Trunks of the era whether wood or steel had large radiused corners except at the bottom and against the body on sedan trunks. When I was a kid I made one nearly identical to the one above for a friend's leatherback Fordor. For a Coupe or Roadster I like the example below.

A couple of years ago on this forum there was an article "Build Your Own Custom Luggage Trunk" by Marshall Lewis and Lorin Sorensen. It closely resembles the one on the Fordor as shown above. The article is very well detailed and shows a lot of pictures on how to do the work. If you cannot find the article I could try scanning in the article into a file and if you email me at [email protected] will try to send it to you. May be a while as a juror on a ciminal trial right now which is taking all my time.

I build custom trunks but i am booked for the next year or so. I try to stay about 20% below the parts houses in price. Fun stuff. Jack

Dan Befort from Louisiana (member of the Fort Worth Club tho) make BEAUTIFUL trunks. He has made and donated some for tour door prizes ('08 world meet, '10 Texas Tour) and one for the club's Christmas party. He can build any size, shape, and cover it with any material of any color. His work is beautiful. I will actually be receiving one of his trunks next week that will match my car
PM me if you would like his info.

Hi Marco,
I found this thread via the search although it has been several years anyone commented on it. I how ever have a couple of questions for you. Why, when I click on "Not Found [CFN #0005]", I'm not able to see information. Why can I not get the info when clicked on it? Now another question is: "If you find a sedan type trunk you will need to change to the sedan type luggage rack". Can you explain the difference of a Sedan type luggage rack and the "Other" type of luggage rack? Thank You, Joe

After seeing how expensive they are to buy, I built my own for less than $125. When I had my Roadster reupholstered I had my trunk also redone.

A Barner currently has a Kari-Keen trunk for sale here on The Swap Meet page...
Period look (and materials - steel), seems like it opens up like some kind of early 'Transformer'. Kool. (BTW, Im not working with the seller, it's just a coincidence, I saw the ad yesterday, and this post today.) |
