This all started years ago when tariff's were lifted on imports. The first to bite the bullet was our steel mills and the japs shut it down in record time.From that point on we have been on a down hill slide . Not much is made in the USA now and soon we will have nothing made in America . If we ever get a leader/Businessman in Washington controll we may once again see American made quality parts.When building a hotrod today its hard to fine American pieces. I keep every old part I can get just to have them on hand in the event I need them.

I have found that none of the auto supply store employees in my area have any expertise whatsoever. They are apparently hired right off the street or directly from high school with no experience. If you own a pre-WWII or even pre-Vietnam car, who do you go to for advice or information? All the experts are gone. I imagine that some have never even heard of a flathead V8, let alone a Model T Ford!

Certainly don't want to get political here. This is all I will say and I will not discuss this any further. Where were all of us when Boehner got on T.V and said "the American people will not stand for tax increases?" The Whitehouse wanted to tax the very wealthy and Corporations with their equal share, not the working grunts like most of us. The Whitehoue plan was strongly endorsed by Gates, Buffet and Clinton, by the way. I think they've got a few bucks! Boehner and his cohorts claim that "by not taxing the wealthy and large Corporations,( large contributors to a certain political party) they will use the money to create jobs. hellloooo? I spent most of my former career with one of the largest U.S.A. bearing companies in the world. When the new breed starting infiltrating our corporations in the early 80's, the battle cry in the industry was and is, outsource as much as possible, do more with less bodies, pocket as much cash as possible! I could go on, I will not. I have experienced "downsizing" three times. I am 77 years old. I still work to survive. The company that I gave most of my life and my families lives to has recently, arbitrarily taken away all of our promised medical benefits. We had contributed into it, by the way. I'll be working till they slam the lid down. Point is, the richer they get the more offshore brands we will see. Believe this?.... We get food from China and worst of all seafood from the most polluted waterways in the world, China. Personally we, and my family will only consume foods, including seafood from our good old local American farmers and fishermen.

Very, Very sorry! Chinese bearings tapped a nerve! Sorry to vent !!!

try these guys, they used to be called King Bearing, you could call them and give them the number on your bearing and they would find the replacement made by them, usa made.

hi all,ive been in the auto repair business for 40 years.we buy 80% of parts from carquest and i say over all they have at least 50% non USA made parts.they take good care of us when we have a problem.i wish i could buy all USA made parts.all the old well respected manufacturers have parts made out of the US,its depressing. all our good jobs have gone elswhere and there not coming back soon.if china ever attacks we wont have factories .to make anything to defend ourselves with.i think we will turn it around but it wont happen any time soon.

I bought some cylinder sleeves from MACs with the box stamped Made in USA. I unwrapped the products only to find them stamped Made in Columbia.

On the bright side, the cost of long distance shipping is rising very fast. It won't take long before the local cities will look like better places to manufacture. Remember, "The pendulum swings."

It seems this is happening in the west .The Government here (in NZ )removed all the tarifs so any old junk can come in ,we used to support the USA economy by buying US,John Deer .Ford ,GM ,Mac ,Stanley etc ect , my son has been following this on the Nett ,a lot of qualty tools brands Stanley /crescent are now made in China.I see all our machinery going for scrape up to China.I think the world money lenders have a agender .If the cost of operating a business increases because of local rules and regulations.Taxes /interest . were do you go ?? of to somewhere that does not have them .

That meant the box was made in USA. Many time the package will say "packed in US"

I don't think we can just blame China for everything. It's our own Corporations that outsource the products we used to manufacture right here. And not just corporations, either. Entreprenuers and small businessmen run~don't~walk straight off to China to produce "American" products on the cheap. Ask our beloved Back-Order-Bob how many Chinese stamps are on his Passport. Whose fault is all this? Our punitive tax structure, regulatory laws, and beaurocratic red tape make it virtually impossible for "Made In USA" products to compete in the marketplace.

Outsourcing isn't always bad for Americans, though. Look at the outsourcing the large Pharmacueticals do. They test their new drugs on Black Africans, and have done so for many years. They set up nice hospitals and invite the diseased in for free "treatment". This isn't new, of course, they used to do the very same thing in the Deep South.

What are we able to manufacture extremely well and sell globally? Land mines, hand held missile launchers, fighter planes, we can sell war to both sides of any argument. Any question why we won't sign on to the Anti Personell Mine Treaty? 156 Nations have signed, but no, not us. ...It's just that lately, we seem to have forgotten how to step aside and not get our own boys involved in the wars we create.

If ever there was a time for reckoning...
