Default 59ab 80 over cam bearing

First time posting but been reading for a few years. I am having a machine shop build a 59ab for my 36 5window and got the call I needed 80 over cam bearings. I been searching for about three weeks and read all articles I could find and in one it listed NOS part numbers as 01A-6261-D and 01A-6262-D and I found these numbers for sale and I purchased. Now the boxes have D2 instead of D at the end of the part number. Does anyone know what the 2 stands for? Could it be a different ID?

The "2" indicates the part was sourced from a different supplier. It is interchangeable with the same basic number (D).

I hope the machine shop is really trying to say you need .20 under bearings. If they ground that much off of the journals, I would be very concerned about the shop and you will need a new cam.

I've only seen .20 under bearings for sale. I've seen anything above that.

.20 inches is a lot of metal. Shouldn't it be .020?

Ford made and used cam bearings for most combinations of standard, oversize holes in the block as well as undersized journals on the cam. Make sure your bearings match the combination of specifications you need for your block and cam.

If they're saying you need .080 oversize cam bearings, then they must be talking about the cam bearing bores in the block. Ford didn't like to scrap things, so I've heard they did over bore certain blocks for special oversize cam bearings (instead of throwing the block away). They obviously made oversize bearings for situations like this.

I've never had a block with oversize cam bearing bores . . . but the day is young! LOL

If you cannot find the bearings, they may need to make them from aluminum bar stock.

Barnfind08-i am now in same place as this fellow was in 2023. I am in need of .080 over cam bearings for 59AB build. I finally ended up with good block after 3 unusable ones. Cylinder bores cleaned up at .040 over then the F1 durabond cam bearings too small. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ron

While I've never had a block with the cam bores like this, I'm sure the day will come . . . if I live long enough! I just picked up a pristine 'keystone' 41/42 Merc/WWII 239 block - STD bores, no apparent cracks (had been magged with new cam bearings installed), super clean decks, etc..

I will have the block cleaned again and magged, then I'll pressure test it. Hopefully all is well with it as these blocks are very hard to find.

Canada Ford was making WW2 Military engines '38 to '45, I have a '41 in my Canadian Merc. Factory relieved with a 3 3/16" bore. Newc

So far after being involved in hundred's of flathead engine's I never came across any oversize cam bearing bores. Could it be possible during a short period of production the boring process for the cam bearing bores were machined incorrectly being to large a bore for the standard cam bearings. This would then be the reason for the needed oversize OD cam bearings. Makes one wonder why.
