Fuel Inlet Fitting?

I’m new to Stromberg Carburetors and for the life of me cannot figure what thread the inlet is.

Many years ago parts stores had a Stromberg designated fitting just for this. It is quite possible that Michael Driskell at 3rd Gen has them. If you live near an old NAPA they might have the fitting also. I have a few and that is where I found them.

I just looked on 3rd Gen's site and he does have them in stock.

Here is an old one. The ferrule is a sleeve that is fairly tight in the nut

How does the fuel line connect to it?
If anyone has one to sell please let me know, I think that my whole project is going to come to a stop due to my inability to get fuel into the carb.

I need to see what the other end of it looks like so I might possibly figure out how it connects to the fuel line.
After working on an engine swap for 2 months I’m nearing completion and now I discover that I don’t have a way to get fuel to it.

FYI

When building or repairing a fuel line, use a good quality 1/4" ferrule; the ones from the plumbing department in a big box store might not be up to the task.

Unless someone previously wailed on them, the nuts can usually be reused.

The ferrule of the original fitting made especially for the use on the Stromberg is not just a short ferrule like all suppliers now sell, IMHO. The ferrule is longer and feeds back into the fitting like a sleeve. It is not like a separate nut and ferrule. With the proper fitting you can put the fitting/ferrule on the carburetor and then push the fuel line from the pump until it bottoms in the carburetor and then tighten the nut. The same fitting works on the pump if memory is serving me today. LOL

The fitting into the carb should be the same as the fuel pump outlet. In my opinion the nut with the captive ferrule is not as good as the ones with a separate ferrule. I have used a nut that did have a captive ferrule with a separate ferrule but a nut designed for a separate ferrule is preferable. The 1/4" ferrules should be available from many sources. ebay for instance.

The one on the right is what everyone sells now. I doubt that the one on the left is made anymore for lack of demand.

With respect Mart, What would make you believe that a part that was made specifically for a job would be inferior to some off the shelf part?

So basically this is a compression connection with a nut and ferrule?

NAPA has them. Weatherhead 59X4

Well Bob, I thought I was in luck with that part number but my local NAPA store says they don’t stock it and can’t get it. If fact when he enters it into his computer he comes up empty. He says it’s because they don’t carry fittings anymore (he wasn’t all that eager to help.

Ford used the A-9243 fitting for all the applications as far as I know. They were listed for 1928 to 1948 but may have been used later. They are kind of like the smaller fitting Ford used for distributor vacuum lines clear up into the early 60s. Those types were made to be a one piece compression fitting.

I called him back and asked to look up Danfoss 59X “4” and that came up as a good number. Thanks Bob

Do you remember if they were indeed a one piece fitting? What I have appears to be one piece but the ferrule is longer and extends deep into the nut. It is tight enough that you cannot pull it apart with your fingers. You can look inside and see the seam where it terminates.
