You sir, have this exactly correct.
Pretty simple / basic rule of economics.
I can't think of a thing that that rule does not apply to.

Nope, nope, nope.
Many cars are rare. That doesn't mean they are a sellers' market car.
The car must be desired.
Heck, there are few Edsel's floating around. That doesn't seem to make them valuable and never has.
Even a high supply doesn't necessarily equate to high value.
The rule is supply AND demand.

Certainly in the world of genuine collectibles of any type.

One fact to remember is that anything produced or marketed as a collectible is almost never one.

Yow I guess I have been asleep at the Roadster wheel! Oh well! Point well made.
I like your comparison to the Edsel--- I wouldn't want one of those ugly be-jeebers as a gift.
And yes, example 'Beanie Babies'. Talk about an item marketed as a 'collectible' how did that work out

The '76 Eldorado Cadillac convertible, 'last' one to be built.

Except three years later convertible Cadillacs were back in production.

There is a price point/interest level for everything. Then it tanks, the speculators move off something else.

I currently have two of my top "Dream" cars. A '31 Victoria Coupe and a '56 Corvette. They are wonderful to drive, tinker with and, pinch me, I must be dreaming, just look at, sitting there in the garage. But.... they are also a very good investment.
The best of both worlds.

The fact that Larry Shepard did the work on that car would be enough for me to bid on it! Unfortunately there’s no possible way that I can fit in a roadster.

That car is currently bid to $16,000. Auction ends in just over 23 hours.

FWIW, the roadster with the overdrive and repro body sold for $26,500 and people familiar with the car have indicated to me that it was a fair price for that car.

the overdrive seems to command an extra 6-8k on an A. so def a desirable feature to many who tour. would prob cost at least that to install yourself.
