Default 34 trip

I leave this morning for the trip down to Victor harbour for the Aus V8 nationals.
About a 7500klm round trip in the coupe.
Up to Mackay today to pick up my travelling companion, then a day sorting her Model A carb issue.
then heading off on mon or Tuesday ,via Roma, Cunammula ,Bourke,Broken hill and Adelaide.
I will post some pics along the way,
Thanks to those folks involved in sorting out the oil situation.

Left Mackay around 8-30 this morning, nice drive over the range to Nebo, one thing, the 34 is not like our A,s on the range, gets over in top gear but with the little 221 engine and 3.54 rear its a bit lazy on the steep corners, where as the A will pull like a train.
A few wide loads today, and lots of fuel tankers,
I got too close to a B tripple double decker cattle truck and now have some brown stains on the black paint.
dearest fuel so far ,at Cappela 2.22 /ltr
the 34 used no oil or water, and fuel around 12 ltrs /100ks.
Tomorrowwe are headed to Roma 405klms so another easy drive.

Sounds like your having fun, wish I was out there with you. Some of my fondest memories are road trips with friends. As for your lack power in the hills and turns, that is why I went with th overdrive rather then the gear swap. You can shift back on the fly and bring you rpms back up into your power band. I hope you have another great day out on the open road. Tim

Lawrie, that's the same route (in reverse) that we took to get to your place coming from Lake Gairdner in 2018.

Wayno, that seems a lifetime ago.
Anothe rgreat relaxing drive today down to Roma,(440klms)
weather is lovely at around 29C
Engine is good ,oil pressure 53 psi at 55mph and 15 -20 at hot idle
Starts first push of the sstarter hot or cold,
Had a nice talk with a truck driver ,he was loaded with wheat and total weight 90 tons,we passed him on a long uphill climb ,but he soomed past on the flat,we were only doing 50 or so.
Dearesr fuel so far at Injune at $2.54 per litre, lucky we only needed 27 ltrs.
Last August it was only $1.89.
Pics are our lunch stop at the top of the range,
The suspension is handling the rough stuff pretty good, and only bottomed out once, mainly because i was gawking off looking at the sceenery instead of paying attention .
The rock formations on the drive today were really impressive,we were in the area of the Canarvon gorge which is special.
tomorrow we are off to Canamulla ,where we will stop for a day just looking around etc.

Tim, re the rear ratio, your probhably right, the 3.54 was in when we got the car,25 yrs ago.maybe i should swap it for a 3.78,i dont want to put an o/drive in ,either a mitchellwhere i would have to cut the floor pan,or a columbia, I like the nice clean look of the rear axle .
but i have taken a lot of time and $$ to get the rear quite,so I,m reluctant to take al`l apart and fit a 3.78 in,that means changing to a 6 spline on the driveshaft, and thats taken a long time on the 33 to get right(it has a 3.78)
If i could get a new 3.78 with the 10 spline i might considerchanging it.
