Default 39 Ford Exhaust Challenge

I’m installing a new stock exhaust system on my 39 Ford Standard Coupe. The lead pipe with flange and crossover stub must pass through an opening between the front spring and frame. Photo 1 shows the opening created by jacking up the car by the center of the front axle until the wheels are off the ground. Photo 2 shows I need 2-3 inches of additional clearance for the pipe to pass through. Is there a way to create this clearance without dropping the spring? For example, would unbolting the shock from the frame do the trick? Looking for suggestions on a “minimally invasive” approach.
Thanks,
Russ

If you need more space wouldn't you want to jack from the frame
and let the axle drop. Maybe I'm missing something.

Russ, this is a PITA task indeed. Believe it or not, I have found it easier to remove the right exhaust manifold and snake the pipe in from the top.
Sorry I can't offer an easy way. If there is one, it has eluded me.
Fortunately, most of my cars I'd done full restorations upon. Very easy with no body on the frame

It's a pain but you can also remove the radiator to get the crossover pipe installed.

I have to wonder how the Ford mechanics did this back then?

I suspect they would cut the front pipe about 3" below the crossover stub, connect to exhaust manifold and crossover pipe, and then butt weld the pipe back together under the car.
