Default 1959 Edsel Ranger / Wash and Drive

In this episode of Old Car Chronicles we wash the outside of my 1959 Edsel Ranger, then take it for a drive up to town for an ice cream and a short story about this car.

I hope I never let my car get that dirty that I need a power washer.

I really doubt that you would!

I can't help but wonder: where was this car stored, & for how long, in order to get that bad? It sure is a neat old FoMoCo ride!

It’s got a Pacific Lincoln Mercury plate holder on it. I think Dad bought 3-4 Lincoln’s from them. Originally part of the William O McKay Ford dealerships.

The drive photos show crossing WA rt 165. Really out in the country east of Tacoma. Parked under a shed, open 3 sides, it could get that dirt and moldy in year up here. Maybe less down there.

Kind of cool, typical of cars not coddled in WA rural areas. Hopefully a bunch of cats around keep the mice out.

I appreciate living in the desert SW more now.
Except the sun eventually bakes the paint off of everything.

< This red '55 has an enclosed garage.
I drive it 3 or 4 times a month for errands, club events and have to dust it occasionally.
Not sure I've ever had to wash it.

What’s surprising is the chrome looks better than I’d expect. Maybe an older restoration no longer properly kept. Who knows.

I’m with you. If I could get things arranged to be here for the holidays (grandkids) and back from Tucson for June-August that would do.

“Yeah, I’d drive that” is what I say when I like a particular car.
It looks a lot like the area I live in over in the Clark County area of Washington. A car left outside will even get dirtier than that Edsel in just one fall or spring season. I’d never use a pressure washer for fear of blasting off the paint in weak spots.

I agree with Bleach. Parking that car over non-paved area will ruin it. They draw dampness on the underside, and RUST ! Cinders are even worse than a bare lawn.

Also blasting water into rusted out areas is a bad idea.

Nice vid. Thanks for sharing. Nice to see someone driving their non-trailer queen car. I need to get my 1959 Merc on the road.
