So bringing home a new to me 1953 Ford F100 Panel....i made a terrible shift from first into (you guessed it) Reverse...the truck bucked and jerk before i could remedy my error.
Had it towed home the shifter has no movement feels like stuck in R but truck stalls when clutch is out the driver allowed me to disconnect rear of driveshaft so to roll off i disconnected the linkage the forward most shift ta b has some movement - but even with someone in car pressing the clutch i cannot get it to travel thru gears the rear really has no movement driveshaft has no rotation, nor "wiggle" any thoughts are greatly appreciated |

You probably have it in two gears at once. I would fiddle with the levers for a while and it might just come out of one. There is an interlock on the transmission side cover that is supposed to prevent things like this. It may have been overcome, allowing the gears to jam and is now preventing them from going back. You may have to remove the side cover and manually manipulate the gears. Be careful when you do this as the shift forks want to fall out of the cover if you hold it wrong.
Uhh, I suppose this not not a good time to make an offer on that great looking truck, is it?

The front one seems to be about as far forward as it can go, but that's just a guess as I have no "hand's-on" knowledge of this series of vehicle.

The positions can be felt by your hand. A detent ball and spring fits into a notch for one of the three positions on both levers. Removing the side cover generally shows what is happening with the gears when you move them by hand. However, you need to understand what moves where and how to reposition the shift forks when doing this. It’s quite easy to get this wrong if you’re not experienced with the job. Based on what you have described of the incident, I would suspect that at the least you have managed to force it into two gear positions at once…. This will lock up the transmission. Or possibly one or more gear teeth will have broken off, and the pieces are locking up the unit. A competent transmission shop (who is comfortable with older manual transmissions) can help get it back in working order. We can help with the repairs or supply the parts if you need a source.

If you can get both levers in the neutral position like has been said, make sure your shift lever is in the neutral position to hook the shifter levers back up. I had a truck that did this frequently. The levers were worn out in front of the firewall on the steering column. You had to make a very “square “ shift 1st to 2nd. If you didn’t it leave one lever still in gear and then engage the gear you were shifting to. Have someone hold the clutch released and rock the output shaft with one hand and try to get both trans levers in neutral.
That is definitely a nice truck!!…….Mark

All good advise above, it may help to have someone rock the vehicle forward and backward slightly while you are trying to position the shift levers

AI suggestion for a fix:
"Common Causes and Solutions Stuck in Two Gears: The most frequent cause is the transmission being locked between two gears (e.g., 2nd and reverse), which binds the drivetrain. This often happens due to wear on the shift gate or lever, or improper shifting habits. Fix: With the engine off, reverse rotate the engine using a pry bar on the starter ring gear (after removing the starter). This releases pressure on the gears, allowing you to manually shift back into neutral. Jacking up one rear wheel and blocking the clutch pedal down can also help relieve binding. Stuck Shifter Rail: The lower shift rail (for 1st/3rd gears) may be stuck in the detent, preventing proper shifting. Fix: Remove the transmission cover and use a screwdriver or pry bar to gently tap the stuck rail back into the center neutral position. The detent should be centered when in neutral."

Having been down this road with a good friends 51 pickup I would venture that the side cover will come of and you will find a broken off tooth jammed in where it dosn't belong. You were not shifting between the two halfs of the H so I'm betting it's not in two gears at the same time. If you were close to Perry Mo. I would say pull the transmission and bring it over . I'd do it for free. I love working on these little three speeds. Tim
