Yesterday I replaced my rear generator bushing. I had already purchased a nice end plate to keep my '53 Monterey on the road, but by replacing the bushing I would have a spare. I broke a hack saw blade so that the cutting part went all the way to the end and sawed the side wall in two. Then sawed the opposite side in two. But because the bushing is brittle it came out in pieces. The new one has been ordered from C&G and I'm always thrilled when I'm waiting for a part in the mail. Even a little part.

When you install the new bushing DO NOT hit it directly with a hammer as it might crack. Use a spacer between bushing and hammer head. Perhaps you can use a drill press (like an arbor press) to press it in. Be gentle.

I use a tap and a spacer over the tap. place a nut on the tap and tighten nut holding the tap still.

I change several generator bushngs every week. A blind bearing/bush puller works very well on these. A few slaps with the attached slide hammer and they pop right out. I press the new one in with an arbor press and appropriate sized socket.

I have read the tips given to me here about installing the new bushing. Thanks, because they are important.
