I moved the 32 from the big shop to the house garage as a trial. Frees up some space in the shop.

Also moved the CA tractor out to the small shop. I had a good time pulling it and we won second place.

Chris and Cheryl
We had a CA on the farm, dad bought it brand new . Good tractor. Had it many years.

Guys,
Just some random pictures around the homestead.

I am ready for winter to be done!

We built a pair of 6 foot x 10 foot sliding doors in the shop. These had been planned for years, Just getting around to it now. Duke helped every step of the way too.

These may be useful? Or just a conversation piece? Time will tell. They are heavy.

Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

“ Duke helped every step of the way too”………nothing like a good helper !!……..I’ve had enough of winter myself ….not much snow but plenty of cold temps!…..I like sliding doors, no swing to take up room…….Spring is coming…….Mark

Al, Ford folks,
We plan to have local syrup and our various maple products available for our customers this year. Cheryl is not able to help me with the maple production so we are going to take this year off. We are fortunate to have a wonderful care giver coming to visit with Cheryl 5 days a week. This will probably allow time for me to get out and get in some kind of trouble with old Fords. Our son is going to look at a 72 Ford pickup tomorrow. Just what we need!
I want to get the 32 and the Comet out as much as possible this spring and summer. John and I have some trips to take in old Fords! Also Cheryl and I need to go for ice cream every chance we get!
Weather is near zero here with highs in the teens. Looking forward to some warming temps. I hope to help some sugarmakers with their operations and do some serious visiting also. Spring will be here soon! The shop has been quiet as we do not have any big projects right now.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Mike, folks,
We need some additional pictures of your panel truck! That is a awesome find and is in the hands of the right guy for sure. It sounds like you are having a blast with the improvements to the panel. Did I see correctly that there are wooden floor boards above the gas tank?
The barn find thing is just amazing when one of these machines has been saved and comes out into the light after many years!
Our 32 is now part of the family too. Would be kind of lost not seeing it and patting it! It had been waiting in storage mostly untouched since I was born in 1952!
There is a chance we may add a newer baby to the family as Adam will review a 72 truck today. That would keep me busy for a while.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Mark,
As long as every thing holds together I almost like the near zero conditions. We went to Erie yesterday with the F250 and goose neck trailer to move Grandson Mikes rolling tool box to his new work place. He is a mechanic and has his inspection license. The interstate roads were almost dry. We did not get a lot of slush on the truck and trailer. We pulled the trailer in the shop and I rinsed the salt off.
Will pick up 5 gal of local honey today and begin to get that into jars. It compliments our maple syrup products. Planning a pancake breakfast all day March 14 in the shop. Hope to have several hundred visitors.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Mark,
Folks,
Our 23 Maple Taste and Tour is March 14 and 15th. Very cold weather has delayed tapping by other sugarmakers. looking forward to many friends and visitors for our first pancake breakfast at the maple shop.
The 32 waits for the first start up in 2026!
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Chris,

Sure wish you were closer; I'd be there. Of course if you were closer to central Missouri there wouldn't be millions of maple trees for you to tap.

Mike,
Lots of maples all over the world. But mostly all of the maple syrup in the world is made within 200 miles of the great lakes region. The temps in that area fluctuate through a freeze thaw cycle for approx 6 weeks in the spring. That allows area sugarmakers to make from a quart to a half gallon of maple syrup per drilled tap hole. The half gallon per tap is achieved with high vacuum systems. Would like to hear if you have folks in your area making syrup too.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

My uncle had a sugarhouse in northern Vermont, he used to give my dad a gallon of syrup every year, it came in a metal can painted with maple tree farm scenes.

Chris,
I live in the Shenandoah Valley, here in Virginia. About 50 miles West of me, in the community of Monterey, VA, they have a maple syrup festival every March. Lots of folks attend and the food and syrup are worth the trip!

Chris,

We get our maple syrup from Funk's Grove whenever we go to see kids/grandkids in the Chicago area.

Their "store" is right on Old Rt 66, what used to be US-66 between Lincoln, Illinois and Bloomington, Illinois. I read once that their maple grove is the largest "somewhere." Maybe west of the Mississippi River. Maybe outside of New England. But largest somewhere.

So we have access to the good stuff maple syrup. It would just be good to be a part of your get-together.

One sentence on that website reads "They currently draw sap from about 6,000 taps, including 5,000 tubing taps, and produce an average of 2,000 gallons of sirup each season."

Guys,
Great to see folks appreciate real from the trees maple syrup! Today I worked in the maple shop kitchen and made 40 10 oz bottles of Maple Mustard and 40 0f Spicy Maple mustard. That took most of the afternoon. Weather has warmed and it almost felt like maple season for today! Yesterday I canned 20 gallons of amber syrup in plastic jugs. We don't use metal cans. but they used to be the only thing we canned syrup in when I was a kid. The good old days!
Listening to Billy Joe Shaver sing the " ragged old truck"! Thanks Mark!
Hope things are good.
I may get a closer look at that other ragged old truck this week. Another story for another day.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

GB, folks,
Facebook market place has a new puppy every day to look at. A not so old Ford truck of the mid 70's vintage has caught my eye. Moving slowly on this unit, which is fine with me. I like to tease you guys. I did review a 72 Ford truck in Colorado that just was too much of a project for me. I will definitely update this thread if it becomes real. Do I need another toy? Of course not!
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Chris,

I had a '71 F-250 that I gave to my grandson. He lost interest after a while. I wish I still had it, but it's torn to pieces and scattered all over his dad's shop and yard.

For me it was just an old rusty wood hauler that ran great. To him it was a restoration project.

Please keep us in the loop if (oops, not if, but when) you get it.
