One of the main reasons I have any knowledge on any of this stuff is because as a young man I could not afford to pay anyone to do anything. So...you learn, which is always good. Modern junk? I'm lost

So, half way thru the year between 81 & 82, I still try to do lots of things myself. I am trying to decide whether to rebuild one of both of my Holley 94's, or put on one of the commie repo 's on Buelah. I don't have a garage or shed, she's in a snow drift right now.
I also plan on replacing the 6v fuel pump and filters.
My body plays tricks on me a lot, but I try to do as much as I can cuz my brain thinks I'm 40. I've run wire, done minor plumbing etc, installed new outlets...
But new cars are different. My wife's car goes to the dealer. I open the hood and marvel that they Jam that much stuff in there.
My dd is a 2007 Wrangler 2door soft top. It is On the 3rd top, I installed them all. I used to change the oil, but that's a pain now. I changed the wheels tires from 17s to 18s just after Covid( got it like a cold). The Jeep looks look but I can't lift the spare, I don't have the strength any more. There is a good shop in town that I go to now.
But, I try to do everything on the 52. It is my project as long as possible. JP Lutz

Thumbs up How many of you do your own work?

Out of necessity and to make sure
it is done right the first time,
I do most of my own automotive
service and repair work.

Good for you! Keep doing what you can. Even the little things can keep your spirits up. In the winter I go out to my little shop on some cold days just to "keep my eye" on my pickup, maybe sit behind the wheel and enjoy the view across the hood. Takes the sting out of "old man winter." Nostalgia can be such a pleasurable thing! I guess that is why we have this wonderful hobby. Keeps the old man syn-drum at bay.

I reckon that’s how we all got into the hobby. All except the pantywaist privileged kids whose Daddies bought Impalas for.

I bet back in your younger days that you probably helped some older folks along the way.

Thanks, 34fordy and petehoovie. Like you I go downstairs(unheated cellar) and look at the two disassembled carbs and daydream about which one to rebuild, but it's just a scosh too chilly for my hands. The Hudson Valley is going thru a cold snap right now.
Fun times ahead though... JP Lutz

Your a wuss. I go out to my California garage just to get away from the TV and the wife. I don't specifically need a carburetor to rebuild, I just enjoy the peace and quiet, with the occasional chirp of a bird out in the yard.
Seriously, though, I've been in the snow almost a few times, and that's too many.

I like this one. You must be an old timer too! I hardly ever hear someone say the cellar anymore! My Grampa would get upset with me in the late 40s and early 50s if I talked too much when the 12:00 noon news came on the radio. He threatened to make me sit in the "water closet" with the door shut!
