If you have a 1942 Ford, you should probably buy spare parts when you see them. I also have a spare "Deluxe" emblem and Ford emblem for the hood. |

Highbeams, that brings up a story. When I bought the car in 2001 there was no engine in it, but it came with a 59 A-B engine. Pulled the heads and intake. Right off I found adjustable lifters and that it had .125 over pistons along with a non-stock clutch(racing). A few years later Ford bought my dealership out and I decided to move back to Pennsylvania. Paid a guy to haul it here. We were here about a year and we could see it wasn't going to work out. Ended up getting a great job with the Ford dealership in Globe Arizona. Called the guy that had hauled it before. He said he couldn't haul it but he knew a really great guy that could. Paid the new guy and he said he had a place in the Valley and he'd bring it up as soon as we were settled in. Six months later I didn't have the car, but I found it he was being pursued for stealing classic vehicles he had been contracted to haul. In fact, he went to jail for that very thing. I hired an attorney who sent him a demand letter and all the sudden he calls me asks if I've filed charges. My answer was not yet but the day isn't over. He said you'll have the car Friday. No car. Saturday a beautiful transport truck pulls up with the 42 inside. The driver tells me he got subcontracted to bring the car. He picked it up at a warehouse in Phoenix manned by "some real scarey people". The back window seal had failed and the back glass was laying on the package tray. There was water on the package tray and it hadn't rained in the vallley for like 100 days. He was convinced the car had been stored somewhere other than Arizona. At that point I was just happy to have the car back.

I'll always wonder if the engine that was stolen had a 4" Mercury crank in it. I had the 59 A-B that I did put in it bored .030 and the previous owner told me that it had a "hotter" cam. It feels like it has more "snot" than either my 46 and 48 Fords do. Years before I had a 46-sedan coupe (club coupe) with a Mercury crank and you could feel it.

Over the years I have owned at least 15 flathead V8 powered trucks. The two with merc cranks both made me smile when I crested Flarehty's Hill, the other 13 taught me how to downshift a crashbox.....

It's winter so I'm out in the garage hanging pictures. I've had this factory photo for years of Super Deluxe Coupe. In the background I believe is the Dearborn Inn which we've stayed at. |

This is a 1939-1960 Mercury poster that was given to me by one of my teachers when I was about 15 years old. It hung in my office when we had our Ford and Mercury dealership. So, I've had it over 50 years. The picture below it is the dealership in Ashland, PA. The Canfield brothers with a 57 Fairlane. I ran that dealership for 11 years later on. The picture to the left was Kuzo brothers in Mount Carmel, PA after their new building was built in 1948. Their son worked for us and had some stories from when they had the Edsel franchise. |

My 1903-1960 poster. Sometimes I think I should buy another dealership to display my stuff. My wife said she'd leave me if I do. |

John,
With the collection of cars you have now it's similar to a dealership already! Just need to add another bay on to your garage. We do need another project to work on! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

one of the differences is the '46, '47, '48 grille! Thank you! Replies welcome!(The '46 model should've kept the '42 grille, but surely Ford wanted the new-look post-war introduced, as did competitors GM's Chevrolet, Chrysler's Plymouth and Dodge.

I couldn't get a good photo but this one of the two Norman Rockwell prints from 1953 of the three Fords I have. This one has been reframed where the other is in the original heavy wood frame. They were a dealer only item and my understanding was not every dealer got one. I've told my wife if I die to keep one and give the other to our son. Everything else can be sold. |

I was at an estate sale of a Ford collector a couple years ago. There were some prints of Henry and Edsel that I would’ve liked to have hanging on my wall. Another bidder had deeper pockets or wanted them more than I did……you have some really nice stuff John…..Mark

Thanks, Mark. That one actually came from Maine. Can't remember the name of the town but it was on the coast and the owner of the dealerships name was Waldo. The other one was from Springfield, South Dakota. They had saved on the back the message from Ford to the dealers when Henry Ford II passed in 1987.
