Default Couple general carb questions

Picked up 3 carbs today, hoping to get a couple spare cores for my Dads 8BA hot rod pickup. I知 pretty new to this so go easy on me. Haha. What is the tube on this 94? Is this for the weird vacuum advance? All the 94s are basically the same? 59a / EAB / 21-29/ 91-99 etc ?? Also picked up a ford Stromberg 81 model 92.
Thanks Mark

That is for a South Wind gas heater.

The various Holley carbs are basically quite similar through the years, the major differences were in external linkages for different choke methods, hand throttle, etc. The later post-48 carbs (8BA, EAB, ECU) also had the external port in the middle of the back for the Ford Load-a-Matic distributor. There were also minor internal differences (squirters, etc.) over the years which were are usually improvements.

The 92 is a smaller (internally) version of the 94 used on the later '38-40 V8-60's. There is also one picture showing an "81". the pictures are kind of confusing, so it is difficult to determine which is which. If that is an 81, they are quite desirable for dual carb applications for smaller inch engines. That one, however, looks really beat up so there is a question of whether it has much value.

This is another reason "Charlie NY" should still be around; he knows a hell of a lot more about these things than I do and could have done a much better job of explaining it.

Thanks for the responses, I had considered that the tube was for a south wind heater. Yes, that is a 81 model 92 carb, with 7/8" venturis. Picked these up an an auction of random garage stuff.

Another difference you値l see on 94痴 is the venting system. Several early experimental versions proved troublesome, before settling on the vertical tube internal to the air-horn. As air horns are interchangeable, you値l see mismatches of late on early bases and vice versa. Refurbished carbs were subsequently re-assembled without regard to originality, resulting in confusion at the swap meets in these modern times.

I just ran into an issue with the interchangeability of air horns. There are slight differences. The issues I had was swapping out different sets of clusters. The air horns that fit the tall clusters have a deeper pocket to avoid interference.
