I had a visit from some old car guys yesterday so had to get the 52 Merc going for some photos and video along side the well preserved survivor 1960 Plymouth Savoy. A sample here.

Ralph: cool, brings back memories of my Dads 57 Plymouth flathead 6 3 speed on the column, it was the car he owned after his ‘53 Merc. I remember trying to fix the eyebrow above the headlights, they always rusted out there.

I know what you mean about the rusted out "eyebrows" as I've seen plenty. Thats what makes this Savoy so impressive as it has no sign of that rust.

And yes, CWM is one of my favourite yt channels. I've learned a bit there about body work. Years ago he had a 53 Customline with the flathead V8 they were working on. Theres also a 51 Victoria waiting for attention.

Now I gotta take a look at CWM, thanks! Ralph, it's always fun to have car guys stop by for a visit. Hint to any 'barners out this way. I remember our '52 and later a '55 plymouth, but by the time Dad showed up with a 5 year old '58 belvedere with a V8 and push button tranny, I was already knee deep into my 4 wheel obsession, so I can still recall it in fine detail. Though I loved that car, it was not an easy one to wax.

Regarding the Chrysler flathead six they were legendary in farming country as many combines used them as the power plant. Quiet fall evenings would sometimes resonate with the distant roar of straight piped flathead Chryslers as the crops were harvested.

I have heard that the combines got the Chrysler sixes instead of flathead Fords because Chrysler would sell engines on credit, while Henry demanded cash up front.

Now thats interesting. Just imagine the sound of the combines with a straight piped flathead Ford engine. The Chrysler flathead sixes were governed to run at continuous 18 to 1900 rpm in the combines.
