Nice relaxing day today,
The gearbox had been hard to get out of 1st gear when first starting off in the morning, but got easy when warm.
So this morning I thought I had better check the oil level in it,thinking it may be down, but after crawling under it before starting this morning, it was still full, but as we are now back into Queensland and warmer weather it was fine,
We headed off from Mitchell around 8-30 , filled up and headed off on another back road, I have been on this before ,both in my 33 and model A so was a pleasant drive, we stopped at another explorers campsite and had a walk around,so very peaceful way off the beaten track, had to open a gate or two but nice drive in to the campsite used in 1846.
Back on the road as usual stopped for smoko and biscuits, well one each as we are putting on weight from the high life
The road sign has some unusual place names.and the food indicaters show how high the water gets.
Later two caravans passed us as we were only putting along at 45mph,
At the next small town we stopped to use the toilets and fueled up, fuel used worked out at 12.6 lots/100 ks.
We rang ahead to book accommodation and got what was called a suite. Turned court to be OK but we can’t hear ourselves talk above the A/C
This allowed us a bit of leeway so took another side road off the direct route, through the Arcadia valley, very picturesque and, interesting countryside.
The road formations are supposed to be 250 million years old.
We saw the little lizard sunning himself at a lookout.
At the Rolleston where we’re stopped for the night , who should we see ,the two caravans who passed us on the back road earlier, they sure were surprised and told us we were only 15 minutes behind them,
Tomorrow we are not sure which way to go as neither of us need to be home straight away.

Todays travel was very easy and enjoyable, from Rolleston to Clermont,as usual via back roads, only about 300 is.
Saw some old wrecks at the rest area in Springsure, stopped at the park in sapphire, funny we had been here a month ago in the model A for a rally.
First pic is from the top of the range, and the flat land we had just driven over.
On the highway west of Emerald we could burn along at 55 mph ,it was nice.
We’re stopped for two nights at Clermont , main criteria when booking in at the accommodation was we could watch the footy tomorrow night, the first of the finals.
The 34 sure could do with a good wash, with bugs and stuff over the front.
Some pics of the rust along todays travel.

Had a great day at Clermont ,catching up with good friends there, out for dinner both nights and a lovely relaxing time.
Monday morning packed the car and headed off to Mackay, only a short drive at 290klm.
As this is the heart of the Queensland coal mining area, there are lots of wide loads, this one, we had the pilot car first ,then a police car, then a B double full of stuff, we talked that surely they didn't need all the pilot and police car just for this, then a big gap and finally another police car who made sure we were right off the road, then the wide load.
it was making heavy work up the rise.
Further on we came to one of the many coal mines out here, the haul trucks were continuous up and down the haul road.
At a rest area down the road away, having, what else , but a lovely lunch made fresh every morning,(thanks to my good friend Cheryl)and coffee, you can see how well fed we are,
Some cars went past ,one of them must have been speeding as a police 4WD coming the other way put his lights and siren on and did a high speed u turn at took off after the car,A bit of excitement .
Driving at Nebo for a fuel stop and ice cream the servo was under repair so had no fuel, so had to fill up at the other one down the road a bit.
Arriving back at Mackay around 3 pm.
Monday morning I headed back home to Gladstone.
Stoping at a rest area for a break, I was about to leave when a woman came over and asked if I had any tools, she tells me her 8yr old Toyota would not start, after she spoke to the dealer by phone ,he told her she would have to reset the cars computer, by disconnecting the battery for 1 min then reconnecting it, she had no tools, I tell her I have no metric spanners as my car is only imperial so will have to us a shifter, after doing the job on the battery it fires straight up, she tells me it was because she left the gas tank cap open??.while putting my shifter back she came over and commented how simple the 34 was, commenting that its nearly 100yrs old.
On the trip from Mackay to Gladstone on the main hi way I mostly travelled at 55mph which seems a nice comfortable speed.but fuel usage was up a tad.
Im back home now, after 3013 miles 712 litres of fuel at an aver cost of $1.85/ltr.
engine used about 1 ltr oil.
Some jobs to do on the 34, adjust the play from the steering box, adjust brakes, good wash and clean, plus a full grease and oil change, a few things inside the cab, make a better drink bottle holder, fit a UHF radio, fix door and rear window rattles, lube door locks, and fix oil pressure gauge.
As it will be heading for the V8 nationals in Victor Harbour in SA in April, a 2800 klm trip each way.
Not too bad for a 91 yr old vehicle.

the 34 is all washed and cleaned, after the trip away,
there were a lot of small stones stuck in. the tyre treads .
its on the axle stands in the shed ready for a service,
I see it had hit the rubber bump stops on the rear .
there is no rubber stop on the front, I have ordered one. also the radius rod ball rubber looks a bit second hand so will fit a new one from my spares.
Its reasonably clean underneath, a lot of dust though, with some oil out of the front crankshaft seal, none from the gearbox or rear axle,
A few loose brake rod cleave pins, but an easy fix , I will make some over size pins.
