I'm new to model T's.
The motor i bought came mounted on a small wooden cart. I recently overhauled a model A engine, which i had hanging on one of those water-inlet brackets that Snyders sells. Is it safe to hang this T motor with the hogshead and everything together? It seems like a lot of stress on those two threaded holes. Thanks |

If it is a complete powerplant why do you need to hang it? I wouldn't trust it to stay put.

I need to get the pan off to see what's going on. The pan runs from the hand-crank to the u-joint, so i think it has to be on a stand.
*the cart is just something that kept it off the floor |

The smaller the fastener, the more stress on threads. I've seen many a model A motor hanging from a single spark plug thread but they have the 7/8-18 or 18mm set up. The model T is pipe thread so a person could get one or two from Lang's or Snyder's that have the adapter for the model T spark plug bores. If the head is off then several head bolts can work with the right chain links. Once all the bottom covers are off then the engine can lay on a table or fit on an engine stand with the right combination.
The early Ford V8 engines use an adapter that fits the exhaust ports with all bolts in for mounting on a roll over stand. One or two outfits fabricate the adapters but I fabricate my own stuff. The 4-bangers have the valve chamber on the right side so this doesn't work well on them. Where there's a will there's a way. |
