Each and every one starts up by pulling the choke, pumping the floor pedal once or perhaps twice and hitting the starter for NO MORE THAN a few seconds. All the suggestions for electric pumps, flex fuel lines with check valves are intended for folks that either don't want to bother doing things correctly or don't have the knowledge to do so. I'd suggest you send both your carb. and pump to Charlie. You will be smiling from ear to ear when they are returned and reinstalled.

To post #24: I have had Charlie rebuild four carbs and a distributor for me. I am very happy with the results. I also have an electric fuel pump installed on my car. I did so, not because I'm lazy and inexperienced. It allows for a lot less cranking at startup (it is not needed ounce the engine starts). In addition, it serves as a great backup should the mechanical pump go south.

Does anyone have a phone number for Charlie? I'm leaning towards sending him a carb and rebuilding the pump myself.

When I was a "rookie" I had an electric pump on my '51. Then I started hangin' around here and the H.A.M.B. and found out what was what and ended up removing the electric fuel pump. I am much happier with the car now.

ABSOLUTELY!! Charlie is the best! He restored my dist. on our 59AB flattie, fuel pump, and Stromberg 97. Now when I hit the starter it fires off on about the second revolution, cold start just a little choke not too much warm start don't use the choke at all. Our flathead runs so sweet now it is the difference between night and day. DEFINITELY give Charlie a holler he is great! Does excellent work and is as honest as the day is long!! |
