Quote from an earlier post!

"I have the by-pass filter on mine, and I was surprised at how much oil does flow through it. I could see the return squirting back into the fuel pump stand and the beehive filter was quite hot,"

It's not a good idea to return the oil to the fuelpump stand, as the drain from the valve compartment is quite small, travelling at highway speed it can become overwhelmed and empty the oil pan. you should return it to the front cover or the side of the oil pan. you may get away with it if you have removed the fuel pump pushrod!

I think I use a 7/16 fine thread set screw to lock the flow to the block. The 7/16 screw is alittle small for the factory hole but ot plocks the flow quite well

I am using the Red’s conversion on my new engine and didn’t like the spin on filter look so I hid it inside a bypass filter canister. The AN lines aren’t exactly stock looking but it hides it pretty nicely for a hot rod:

I want to install a filter on my EAC. I have tried in the past using a filter that came with my engine. I connected it, as shown in JM 35 SEDAN's illustration, but there was so much pressure oil leaked around the cap. Ive been told I need a "restrictor". I have tried, without success, to find a restrictor. Is this a part that was provided by Ford with the filter or is there some fitting or adaptor of some sort that can achieve the necessary restriction. I also have a finned System 1 aftermarket filter I could use, but still think I should have some sort of restriction to the input. Any help would be appreciated.

Please note. There are 3 different types of filtering systems. It looks to me that you are using the 90% system as in JM 35 SEDAN's digram, but instead of using the REQUIRED full flow oil filter, you are trying to use a bypass filter. Please recheck the diagram an follow it exactly, any deviation or shortcut will end in tears!
The bypass filter that you have requires NO plug in the internal oil gallery, a 0.060" restrictor between the block and the filter and the oil returned to the sump NOT the downstream oil gallery.

Solder up the inlet fitting and drill a .060 hole in it.

Read his post. The way I read it, he is trying to use an original bypass filter in a 90% full flow system.
Won't putting a restrictor in this situation give him 5% of his oil to 90% of his engine?

My '47 came without a filter assembly. The rebuilt engine has about 40,000 miles on it. I use the stock air filter on it, a detergent full synthetic 10w30 oil and change it every 1000 miles. At that mileage it comes out looking and feeling pretty much as it did when it went in. I thought about adding a filter system but why ? Just the KISS formula.

Just to clarify about the filter I got with the engine, which was sitting in the bed of the 52 F1 pickup I bought. It has a connection on the top and a connection on the lower side. No indication of "inlet" or "outlet". I'm just going to pitch it and go with the System1 filter I have that came off of a dirt track race car. It is labeled In and Out. The reusable filter screen is to my liking. I only have 1300 miles on the overhaul and put about 500 miles per year on it.. Running Valvoline VR-1 oil which is changed every year or every 500 miles. Maybe I don't need the filter, but I do think it would add peace of mind. I am also replacing the breather tube and adding a PCV valve. Thanks for all of your input.
