Default 1940-41 Ford pickup wooden cab mounts.

Hello all. I’m working on a 40 Ford pickup. I was wondering if anyone had drawings or measurements for the wooden cab mounts. I’ve seen lots on the web to buy, but since I’m this far in, I would prefer to make my own. I believe the only years are 40-41 that will work. Thanks.

FWIW, Ford made a floor design change sometime between the first 1938 and the last 1939. The 1940-41 blocks are the same as the later style.

Functionally, you likely do not need the full timber block Ford used. A short (about 4" front to back) spacer for the #2 and # 3 body bolts with a spacer covering between the # 4 body mount and front bed mount (the front bed mount timbers stack onto a "tail" of the body block" should do the job. Note the #1 cab bolt is direct to frame (except for a single layer of webbing).

Thanks for the information Karl. I would prefer to make it as original as possible. So the ford ones would be my preference. I’ll keep looking

I would like to see the dimensions for the box wood mounts as well, if you come across anything be sure to post it on here.

I was just going to say, that the pickup cab wood should have an extended piece that goes under the first wooden cross member of the box.

You can see it in these pictures I found on the internet.

I don't have pieces like this. Bob Drake no longer sells them.

Nice job, Weirdo. I made some too, based on some originals. Yours came out much better than mine. My originals and my copies also do not have the tails.

I’ll have to go look at the rear of the truck. It’s still on the old frame.i knew there was a couple pieces left, but miss that tail. Should be a lot easier than the others

For reference these are the original "long" blocks that were under my '38 cab. They measure 61-1/2" long.

Bill, your blocks illustrate the "tail" perfectly. Note the differences between the 1938 blocks and the 1940-41 blocks where they fit the cab. This is due to the first 1938 carrying over the 1935-37 cab floor, and the redesign of the floor sometime before the last 1939.

I guess the real question is since only the trucks have cab wood, why is it that all the wood kits are incorrect and missing the tail piece?

The good "expensive" repro's will have the tails. The "el cheapo" may not. Note that the OP had made his own in an admirable effort as these are not easy parts to make. I suspect the OP's will end up growing tails.

What I would like to see made are mounting blocks for the later 42-47 cabs on a 35-41 truck frames. Just a thought as I had yo jump through some hoops when buikding my wife’s truck …. the 43-47 cab was placed on a 36 frame ….

Yep the OP did a nice job on his wood, sadly I have zero wood skills!
There aren't many sources for truck wood at this point. Bob Drake at one point had all the pieces for the pickup, including cab wood, box cross pieces and all the long bolts etc. However now they carry nothing at all.
