1941-48 ford original gas tank vs bob drake reproduction

Do 41-48 factory ford tanks have baffles. The one in my car did. But needed to be replaced. Bought a bob drake and it has no baffles. Yet there website says.
"Our tanks are precision die-formed using special high-grade steel. Each is made to exact factory specifications for years of everyday use with no leaks or contaminates from corrosion. We take extra pride in assuring all Drake Gas Tanks are top quality by carefully pressure testing every tank we sell, one at a time. 33 3/4in. x 21in. x 7 3/4in. - 17 gallons".
Going to call them Monday. It came in a previously opened box with the staples removed and re-taped close. And a dented fuller neck.

Original was 16 gallon, not 17 gallon, so you gotta know going in that they aren’t to Ford specifications. Read the ads like a lawyer would read them. Nowhere did it say it conformed to Ford specifications. It should be a good tank, but If you’re not happy with it, I hope you can get your money back.

I noted many years ago Drake advertising "exactly as original" on the '40 tank. Yeah, except they held more fuel than the original as Alan has correctly stated and they were wider than the original by about an inch.
I guess ol' Bob doesn't know what "exactly" means.

I have installed two of those tanks (47 / 48) and never had an ill report from either. Of course that was about ten years ago. Who knows if the same company in China he was getting them from ten years ago is the same one supplying him now.

I take it they didn't have baffles either? If so maybe I'll install it

I’ve installed one Drake tank and have had zero issues . I also installed a Tanks Inc tank , steel with baffles and it started to leak at the seams within one year . I recently bought the poly tank from tanks inc and it seems good , has baffles me, sort of . We will see .
I prefer the Drake .

I'm running a poly tank from tanks inc in my truck based woodie. It's tucked up between the frame rails at the very rear, so it gets a lot of debris from my dirt/gravel road, and then there's the jolting from potholes etc. I rubber lined the steel straps that secure it. I have been very pleased with it and feel confident even though it's an inch below a car body made entirely of kindling. I would buy one again.

Just as a side note. The thickness of the TANKS plastic allows you to add a drain to the TANKS poly tank. Nylon plug 1/8NPT with sealant available at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

I like the idea of a drain. Is there a reason you made a plug from 3 items as opposed to using a common brass pipe plug?

Years ago when I needed a replacement holding tank for my motorhome the new replacement came without any holes/fittings for the inlet. outlet, or vents. I took the tank to a RV repair place and the fused in threaded plastic bungs with pipe threads.
