On the back of the front seat in the 46-48 woodies there is a spot(under fabric) to attach an ashtray so the person smoking in back seat has a place to put their ashes. Does anyone know ,was this the same ashtray they used in the rear door panels of the coupes or sedans???? thanks!

No. The ashtrays on the door panels for coupes and tudors are smaller than the one in the middle of the back of the front seat.
Here is a pair of the smaller coupe and tudor ashtrays: Available here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1946-1947-19...113622&vxp=mtr And here is the larger one for the middle of the back of the front seat: Available here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/46-FORD-FOUR...34433a&vxp=mtr

I would check with a woody guy on that ash tray. I think the woody ash tray may be different than the 4 door ash tray.

The seat in my 48 Woodie had no provisions for a rear seat ash tray. WHich begs the question...Why are you smoking in a wood car????

No need to beg. If you feel behind the upper center on the back of the front seat there will be a metal plate ,(obviously this has been covered by the vinyl or leather covering),you will feel a plate that an ash tray could be installed if the owner wanted it. I like smoking and smoke in all my cars.

I may be wrong but I was told that the 1946-48 Ford Woodies used the same ash tray as the early Mustangs ???

Hi, Although it is true that the 42-48 Woodies had a provision for an ashtray in the back of the front seat, I believe only the Mercury's had the actual ashtray installed. The seat frames were all the same for Ford or Mercury Woodies with different fabric options. I do have one of these correct ashtrays for a Mercury Woodie if interested you could e-mail me at [email protected] or call 802-869-2688 mornings are best. Toby Lampert

This could be or may not be on topic here, forgive me if not.
How do I remove/replace the dash ashtrays in my ‘47 coupe?

Sedan ash tray is the same as the wagon ash tray.

Kelly, the ashtray itself will just pull out. On the door portion as I recall the radio speaker has to be removed to gain access. I have two NOS assemblies if you need them, I'd sell.
