Headlight Sockets

Restoring a pair of headlights not sure the year, the socket opening (hole) is 13/16". Sockets in a catalog are listed as 2-bulb 1928-29 as A-13075-BR. And a 2-bulb 1930-31 as A-13075-CR. Anyone know the difference between the two? Headlight buckets are bare, so I have no reference on what's what. The motor s/n is for April 1929, but who knows, frame s/n is gone.

The difference is the depth of the headlight bucket.

The '28-29 headlights are deep, parabolic shaped. The back of the headlight socket has longer arms that go back to the adjusting screw hole.

The '30-31 headlights are a more shallow, hemispherical shaped bucket. The arms back are shorter.

28-29 buckets were plated steel,acorn shaped.the 30-31 buckets were bowl shaped,and were stainless steel.30-31 commercial buckets were painted steel though,but would be a rare thing to find those on a car.

Thanx for the help on this, now that you all explained the difference it makes sense when I compared the headlight buckets. I do have the '29 buckets. Amazing how much knowledge I have gained from the discussions on here. Time to drive on.

JIM --- are the '31 Truck Lamps simply painted black over the chrome
Is the Radiator cover also just painted?

The '30-31 headlights, tail lights and radiator shells, for cars, were stainless steel.

All truck headlight buckets, tail light bodies and radiator shells were made of magnetic steel dipped in gloss black enamel. The rims on the lights were the same as cars for that year (plated or stainless -- not painted).

Ford did not paint over stainless steel with black paint to put it on a truck.

The 130-A De Luxe Delivery had lights and radiator shell like cars.

3 bulb??

The reflector would determine if it is 1 or 2 bulb, regardless of bucket.
