I got the weather seal glued in and I knew it was going to be tight but I can't get the trunk lid to close and latch. Does anyone have any ideas that would help. Thanks

I'm no expert on 50 Fords, but is there an adjustment for the catch? If so, you can adjust the catch so the latch will engage.

Please post clear close up photos of your weatherstrip install and poor fitment issues.

Have you left the car out in the hot sun yet?

Thanks for all the replies. After banging on it a lot I finally got it to latch closed. Tomorrow I will see if I can get it unlatched. Thanks again

Weather seals need to take a set under the compression of the closed lid or door.

You might try slackening the latch a small amount and then tightening it in small increments over time. Unless it starts to unlatch/latch as it is. Leaving it out in the sun sounds like a good idea.

It looks like the seal is on the body, if so, it is wrong, the seal goes on the lid and there is another u shaped piece that goes on the pinch weld on the body.
After a closer look, I see the seal is on the lid. Last edited by Cecil/WV; 07-11-2024 at 07:56 AM. |

The u shaped piece on the pinch weld on the body is badly out of place in the bottom RH corner. I do not know if you tried to close the trunk when it was that way? This is the normal poorly fitting shoebox trunk lid. Adjust the latch a little at a time and leave closed a few days between adjustments.
