I have several used springs that come in at 55 pounds installed height. They are old and used. Should I re-use them with .060 shims for a Max 1 cam or buy new. Who has the deal? Should I just do some 185G springs and let it fly?

I like the Zepher springs for the street. Try Reds Headers if you want to buy a set.

The 185G springs are the equivalent to the Zepher springs. A while back the one spring company making the correct Zepher springs for the few company's who offered them would make a run of 100 springs. Now the minimum is 1000 springs I'm not sure anyone is offering the springs any more because of this increase in the minimum.
Since your using a Max -1 cam just use the 185 springs heck were not kids anymore using old springs is something we would do as kids. The cost for the Isky springs is actually reasonable compared to most flathead internal engine parts. Ronnieroadster

Any one ever hop up a 32 V-8 engine? Like a nice cam, high dome pistons., High Comp. Heads? When I am done showing it I would like to do that. Even put headers and nice Mufflers. I want to keep the original Engine in the car. Maybe dual Carbs to look good. Now I am no Hot Rooder just a dreamer I guess.

Correct 32 V8 parts are so rare I do not understand why you would do that. Get an LB engine and sin with it.

The springs depend on the application of the engine. On most street engines I se stock spring a and a '060" spater for 50/55 Lbs. even on the L-100. found most would turn over 4 grand before valve float

I was just at Gardena at Isky.
I bought/find the cam Rons roadster told me was ’my’ cam, the Potvin 425. I was hoping see the old guy there but he was told had a good day but unfortlantny I was there late afternoon so he had went home. Idea was the 185-G has a installation height at 2” and 85 LBS. It is maybe for a .400” lift cam and not .425”, so I cant get 85 LBS but my question to Mr Isky was that I has std 44 grams lifters and titanium valves 8 mm stem = light. So as no ’real’ racing so should ca 70 LBS be all Ok here. This technology I has no experiance off. Anyway I bougt a set and I thin with tax 125 USD. Last edited by 3W Hank; 06-30-2024 at 03:30 PM. |

70 lbs on the seat will be fine with what you are doing . . . as you have original (light) lifters, titanium valves, etc..

Interesting. I grew up in the era where stock 32 engines were the most expensive flatheads out there, short of a Bonneville type build. I knew the value had gone done but I hadn't realized they had fallen in value below an era hopped up engine. Thank you for the education. Back to our regularly scheduled discussion. |
