The hose looked like sections of heater hose. I suppose I’ll try to reinstall with fresh sections of hose to keep things from rattling and rubbing, or come up with something more effective.

Interesting, I was going to use heater hose as bushing. I found the square spacer which traps the core when the cover is installed. If I took photos could have avoided the problem when assembling. Thanks for your help
