What is the opinion of members of the quality of aftermarket water pumps. I have seen articles saying that Skip Haney is the guy to go to for rebuilt water pumps he has outstanding quality pumps. I am not questioning that I am just asking if the aftermarket water pumps are equal to or as good as Haney's. The aftermarket claims improved impellers ball bearings completely sealed etc. What has been your experience?

I am using Speedway water pumps purchased new in 2017. Quality was good and they are doing a fine job - no leaks, no problems. I just preferred to go with new pumps and thought the price was fair. I have no first-hand experience with Skip Haney's products, but I know he has a good reputation in the hobby. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I've been running Speedway pumps for some time now. No problems and my truck runs cool.

I run Skip's rebuilt 8RT pumps with zero problems. Same pumps since 1972.

Actually there is nothing wrong with stock pumps. I've been running the same stock 8RT pumps in my car for almost 25 years.

I think a little clarification is needed here. As I understand it, "Skip's Pumps" have an impellor that is superior in design to those in the EARLY Ford pumps and provide improved water flow. The later Ford pumps have the improved impellor design, so there is no advantage to them (except for Skip's excellent workmanship and attention to detail).

I agree with Tubman, we need to know which pumps we are discussing: 32-36 bolt to the head type pumps, 37-48 type pumps, or 8BA type pumps, Lincoln-Zephyr pumps, other???
Personally I prefer Skip's pump for 32-36 type and new reproduction type with ceramic seals and ball bearings for 37 and later V8 pumps. |

Got my new water pumps for the 52 Merc through Napa and have no complaints on them so far in the 7 years I've run them.

With a good press and some field expedient special tools, a person can rebuild their own. I have to since the OCM type pumps I use on my Mercury cars are not available new.

I have used Daryl Fryer's pumps for all my cars over the years. He advertises in the V-8 Times. Great service and he's in Southern .California which is a lot closer to me than Florida. At today's shipping prices it's cheaper for me and the quality of the pumps is excellent.

Kube, I think you are right I have a tendency to over think things.
I suppose you could go either way with Skip or someone else like Joe's old cars and everything would be fine.

I have Skips pumps on a few cars and reproduction pumps on others. So far they have both served me well. The new pumps have a sealed bearing. Skips still use the oil passage for lubrication, as I understand. I have a tendency to prefer original NOS or rebuilt Ford parts. It's just a mental deficiency I have.

Like you, I tend to overthink things as well. It is a curse at times.
