Default 1947 Hore Ring

Having trouble removing the horn ring on a 1947 Ford. I've tried WD40 and turning CCW after pressing on ring assembly. Any other pointers/suggestions?

You are attempting to do this correctly. Occasionally, moving it a bit clockwise, then counterclockwise helps.
Be careful pressing down. I'd suggest applying pressure very near the hub.
If I were to offer a guess, I'd suggest the foam rubber insulating ring directly below the hub is pretty much "melted" and acting as if it were glued to the hub.

Are you trying to remove the button or the ring?

FortyNiner asks a good question... to clarify, the ring is integral of the button (hub).

Trying to get to the button under the ring. The horns work (removed and hotwired) but, when re-installed, they don't. It appears that the wire from the horn relay to the horn button has been pulled out.

The entire assembly comes off as one piece. In other words, the stainless ring and spokes as well as the button.
Once you have this assembly removed, you will quickly see how the button is held in the ring. Easy to remove.

bit of advise. when pushing and turning anti clockwise, don't grab by the horn ring spokes only, cup one hand around the whole centre or you might bust a spoke or spokes, they are only made of diecast.

Thanks very much. Unable to get the steering wheel off, but got the emblem off and was able to establish complete circuit. Hopefully, horn will operate correctly once the connections are complete. Life and old cars are a mysterious journey.

I am having the issue getting the horn ring off my steering wheel as well.
It looks like the felt as Kube states has melted and is creating the problem.
Does anyone have a picture of what the is underneath when the ring/button assembly is off the wheel so I get a better feel how to move forward.
Thanks

I don't have the insulator but here's some photos underneath.

Thanks Deuce and 47 ,
that gives a good picture of what needs to be done to get it off.
I think I have one side off and the melted felt is holding the other side from allowing the ring to be fully lifted out.

Finally was able to get the horn ring off, but part of the assembly is damaged. Wondering if the broken ring can be replaced or do I have to get a whole new assembly.
Also it looks like the nut on the steering shaft is wrong , what is the would be the correct nut to use.att.c3ugHB4U3P88M01Azw3a6JroX5f3UuQNXSb51cVnKQo.jpg

That inner ring can be replaced. I'll bet somebody has a junk steering wheel around with that part on it. I think the inner ring is the same from '41 to '48. The nut looks correct to me.

Petehoovie, thanks for the enlarged pictures.
TJ, I wasn’t sure if the whole inner assembly had to be replaced as an assembly or if only the broken outer ring was available and then revited back on to the inner assembly.

I finally got the ring to move on my '50 with heavy palm pressure on the hub and a couple light taps with a rubber hammer on the spoke near the hub.

Remove the three screws and the assembly comes out of the horn ring. It's been awhile since I took one apart, but I "think" the two pieces come apart. Once out you will be able to tell.

From the "Just Gotta" department

I am SO glad that there are SO many "HORN RING" experts on here and not "HORE RINGS" like the "Original Poster's Title" I would start to question who I am associating with IF it was reversed!!!!! Phonetically speaking

You really can't blame him. IIRC, you used to be able to change the title of a thread, but for some reason, that capability disappeared several years ago. Now, I double check everything before I hit "POST".
