Default Do replacement sub rails need trimming 30-31 Coupe?

Hey Guys,

I have a question about the repro sub-rails on my 30 Coupe. My coupe had none left. So I ordered full length sub rails and cross channels from Snyder’s.

I mounted the cowl, and put in the cross channels ect, no issues there BUT, I tacked in the rear subframe where the panel below deck lid mounts, and to me the overall length seems too long??

It seems like the quarters won’t reach the corners. And the wheel wells fit the pockets on the subrails…..

Do they need to be trimmed?? I assumed they were already to proper length? I’d say at least an inch, maybe even two??

Door openings are approx. 27” top and bottom from A to B pillar seems right to me….but the last 2 inches of the subrails seems like they would need trimming to fit??

Thoughts?? Besides the condition

Hello, I fitted body sub rails on a roadster and had to reduce the thickness or height of the sub rails to get the quarter panels to fit , this was a while ago, but most of the repro stuff needs reworking to fit correctly.Currently am working on another roadster replacing the rear quarter panel.

The way of thinking replacement parts out is pretty much the same as for building any structure. Too short means add some metal back on and too long means a little trimming is in order. I would expect to have to do some fittiing with any reproduction parts.

The difficulty level is much higher when structure has rusted away or is missing. When taking a body completely apart, it helps to have original parts to look at prior to fitting everything back together but it may not always be easy to get a good look at other bodies or parts. I have a straight model A frame that I use to piece things back together. I don't completely do permanent attachments until I've fit everything to the best fit I can get. I used small holes and a LOT of clecos, clamps, and small sheet metal screws to hold stuff. It's easy to weld up a small hole if it's not where it needs to be.

Vince's site has a good run down on a 30 coupe body. It's a good.source of photos to check out.
